I like to see how the pup deals with going off with you walking away from it parents. Some pups just are not going to go off with you, and they show you something there. I like a pup that has played with you, and gotten scrubs by you, and thinks you are pretty ok and will go off with you to see what you want to do next.
I do not like scaring pups with pots or pans, that is over for me.
I like to throw a toy into a pile of something unstable to see if he just plows into it to get the toy, or dances around the edge. I like to do the same with a barrel.
I like to tease the pup a lot more, and not so much with it in his/her mouth.
I do not test pups right in front of the kennel. : ) too noisy.

Jeff, some of the ideas you have presented are good ones and I would incorporate some of them in my testing/evaluation list.....for next time. If there is a next time. I was so darn happy to get rid of the bunch. Lots of poop and pee. Paper changing etc.
Oh! One thing to share. I started to run out of newspapers when I cleaned up. So what I did was to go to a local grain/feed store. A wholesale company and did some dumpster diving. They throw out these wonderful bags after they mix their seed mixes for canaries, etc. The great thing about these bags is that they are triple layered with the outside ones being water proof. I collected them and cut each in half putting the waterproof side on the down side where I lay the papers. This way the pee do not go through. Sometimes though, the sheer movement of the puppies, move the papers about and they would then later pee or poop on the concrete flooring. I don't know if this help anyone out there.
For the individual out there that asked about my puppies pedigree, I posted it sometime back when my bitch was having a problem whelping. It was a planned breeding with the objective to line on certain dogs. Each complementing each others background bring a small cross from Pike and Carmen tiekerhook with the KNPV line. But overall, both carried the fero and Grief lines via Yoshy.
The bottom line is that, each puppy left with a very nice temperament. What the owner do with them is another story. Several went to potential club members, some to be PPD and one or two just for a good companion dog. One guy lives in Alaska and he does a lot of hunting and fishing. He wanted a nice male companion/ppd. He took a dark sable. At 7-8 weeks old, most were close to 20lbs except the runt. When they left I wish them all the luck and pray they turned out as good as I think the package ingredients were.

I like the walking away test for confidence as well as pack drive. Sometimes I will take a young pup and set him down in the middle of a grassy area and walk away real quick to see what his reaction is. I like putting puppy gates up and see if they think, or just try to climb them. If you use puppy gates, then I don't use them. These are some that I like out of the tests that I have seen.
