Good luck Halley 7.  I once lived out in the sticks and yes, when you live like that you let your dogs roam.  You let them be dogs.  Occassionally you have to hunt one down, but that is not the norm.  Let us know as soon as you find her.  There are those of us who are hoping all turns out well.

Yes there is a valid point but the ignorance to someones pain and the need to poke at it a little more is scarier to me that someones mistake..

I'm scarier because I am blunt?  So be it.
And O/P knows that in farm country, her dog can be shot on sight if it wanders onto someone else's farm.  Well, she should know it.

I sincerely hope the dog is found, but...When I lived out in the sticks and let my dogs roam, I had to search for one until I found her with a broken neck down a gully. I do hope the OP might think about changing her behavior just as I had to, and I sure as hell hope it's before she has to stare at a young dead dog. The other problem is that out in the sticks, people with guns wander around, and kids drinking, and all manner of things you don't want your dog exposed to. I do hope the OP learns from this experience---once her dog is safely at home again, which I'm really hoping happens.

Blunt people don't dig in wounds. Blunt people get the point across withouth sarcastic painfull and smart ass remarks.
I am done.

Sunsilver

When I was growing up, most of my dad's people were farmers. They let their dogs run loose all the time to protect the property and stock.

Times have changed now. Dog laws have been toughened up. People who used to let dogs run loose on the farm now have to install invisible fences, or real fences, or risk having their dog taken to the pound.

Besides, the last time I let one of my dogs run loose on the farm, she rolled in cow shit...

I wish Halley all the best with finding her, and I'm sorry this has happened.  And, I'm sure that when she does find her, routines are going to change a bit to keep her safe.

Exactly what I thought, Nia.  Wow...

My suggestion would be to expand your search. Maybe post something at the schools if you can. If she took off chasing a deer she could be miles from home.
