Looks like there are at least 4 showline sables at the NASS.

cphudson,

If you adhere to the breed standards, showing is a part of the process. The breeding criteria is part show, part work, and part health requirements.

Dog1, do you find it best to enter your dog in the show as a puppy or do you wait until the are more mature?
I was thinking of entering her is as a pup, this way she can go for her breed survey next year if she gets her SCH1 in time.

cphudson,

Your female is a working line female. She's on the masculine side. The focus should be on her strengths which is probably her work ethic as she is from working lines and her ability to produce masculine traits in her offspring. With proper training she should excell at what she was bred for.

Don't forget there are health requirements, she should have correct dentition, her hips and elbows should be certified. Her show career is limited, however it is a part of the total concept of the breed. I would encourage you to spend time ring training her even though it is not what she was bred for. Working dogs properly prepared are looked upon favorably as conformation dogs that are prepared for the work are. You will find there are judges that compare working line to working line and evaluate the working dogs compared to other working dogs in conformation. Your dog may be an SG dog but if it's prepared, breed surveyed and a very good example of what a working line should be,,,,it may just V rate all things considered. It's a matter of doing the best with what you have.

Her placings as a puppy will not really count. It will be good ring experience and a chance for you to enjoy your dog which is hopefully a major part of why you have her. She will be evaluated once she goes over 12 months for her breed survey requirement. Until then consider it practice and a learning experience. Good luck with her and remember whatever portion of her life is spent doing what you want her to do, she's still your family member 99% of her life. Her value is what she is the 99% and the relationship you have with her.

Der "graue" Schäferhund verdient Akzeptanz!

..........nicht nur wegen seiner Eigenschaft als Pigmentverstärker!

Farb-Vielfalt bedeutet Gen-Vielfalt!

Gen-Vielfalt bedeutet Vitalität und Fitness!
