Mystere, you do have a point. And the last part was cool. :)

Oso, I will check back to read what you've found.  Thanks!

OK, I found it, it is in Spanish. I was not quite correct in my previous post, it was quite a while since I read it - here are some more details from the article: ................. The hormone used is either human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) from 250 to 1000 units intramuscular twice weekly for two to five consecutive weeks OR gonadotropin liberating hormone (GnRH) from 50-100 ug subcutaneous or intravenous on two occasions with an interval of 7 days between injections. According to different studies the success rate varies between 6 and 55% being mostly likely to have positive results when the testicle is in the inguinal canal and not in the abdomen, and in dogs under 4 months old. If the treatment fails a repeated course is not reccommended. Possible side effects of the treatment are an increase in size and pigmentation of the scrotum and penis enlargement and erections, these effects disappear when the treatment is finished. If the recommended dose is exceeded it can cause alterations to the puppy's growth. There are other hormonal treatments but they are still in experimental stages (this article from 2006). The treatment should be carried out by a qualified vet. .................. Surgery to correct an undescended testicle is considered unethical and is not permitted in breeding programs. Hormonal treatment can be permitted (depends on decisions made by each association) but it is advisable to check that the case in question is an isolated one and not a condition that crops up frequently in the pedigrees of close relations. Cryptorchidism is mainly genetic but other factors may also be involved, for example it is more frequent in puppies born to older mothers. .................... As I mentioned I knew of 3 different puppies from different kennels and bloodlines that were treated, 2 of them were over 4 months at the time and both were successful (maybe they would have descended anyway??) .. The other puppy was I believe less than 4 months, but only one of his descended....

Please keep youtr pup!  My 6.5 month boy has one retained testicle and I spent  more than I could afford for him ( not because I wanted to breed or show but because I wanted a healthy dog woth a good temperament)  I have lost hope that the testicle will come down and will neuter him when he is 2 to reduce the risk of cancer. I would not conside Dogs, like children are so much more then commodities There are no  perfection guarantees with pups or children, but they are, I believe a life long committment. We will not regrte making this commitement.

Aristian M
Having a Dog living in the house as compared to mine which live outdoors does not make you like them any more than say myself or anyone else
Now to get down to the nitty gritty of your post, you say the Pup has only one bit, the chances of the other one dropping in a month or two are as good as it not dropping at all so Patience is needed
Now again How on earth can anyone say as it has been said by one or two if you want to breed with it
That statement is silly at the age of this Puppy, and should not come into any equastion in this instance
If you love the Dog as you say you do, then keep it regardless of its possiblitity of have only one Ball
Remember the Pup does not think less of you if you are not good looking that is a comparision, Mine do not for i am no Oil Painting
Then again remember what the Pup was bought for, a Gift to you from your parents you are a lucky Lad for them to do it
So my take on it is to give the Pup all the best you can for it and a good Home, Regardless of whether it has one or two bits in the right place

I don't see any harm in trying to increase the chances of it coming down BUT I myself had a monorchid gsd for 10 years before I became involved with breeding and showing, he was the most fantastic companion imaginable and I did not value him any less than I do my show dogs now.

OSO, thanks for the detailed description.

Has anyone noticed the ad for "undescended testicle" at the bottom of the page?  It's called Tednitin.  Tednitin.com

Anyone heard of it or know what it is?
