The test kits have been chosen by a genetic scientist as being wholly appropriate and adequate. You have the nerve to disagree, astounding. I will tell you this: most breeders will find one excuse after another, and as each one is removed, another one or more will replace it. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE EXTENT OF THE JRD PROBLEM. AND BE SURE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW BAD IT MAY BECOME.

Go and ask the other breeds that are "saturated" with JRD, how much they wish they had available to them the JRD DNA Test before their breed became saturated.

I cannot patiently deal with such excuses and ignorance and fear and ostrich syndrome and denial: so I better finish here.

Let me state very clearly - I'm alright Jack! - so you can carry on regardless, of facts, knowledge, risks, and excuses.

I am not disagreeing with any scientist David. adequate is not good enough especially when some breeders are so deceptive.

I don't have the patience to deal with people who are rude so I shall agree to disagree.
I have no desire to bicker with you.

Time will tell...

Just to bring everything back to a level playing field - I was asked by the Kennel Club to carry out a DNA test on one of my stud dogs as someone was querying the parentage on a puppy.  I was sent almost the exact same testing kit as sent out by DogGenes and asked to swab my dog and return it.  If as you say Tracie all these dog breeders are crooks surely you would not be buying a puppy from them or using their stud dogs?  I think as David does that some Breeders are shy of admiting what problems they have but as long as they are not breeding from affected animals then the risk is limited - however to state that breeders would deliberatley send in tests from a different dog I think are a little far fetched.  I know in years back things like that were done but I think it is limited now although it may still happen ocaisionally but what point is there to it?  You are soon found out if your dog starts producing problems and with the internet so accessible these days the world and his brother will soon learn about it!  My biggest problem with people who will not release the names of any affected dogs is that it is impossible find other carriers if we are not given all the information.  It only comes to light when a dog dies and there are so many other illnesses associated with JRD or that can be linked with it  that possibly several dogs have already died which their owner or even breeder think have nothing to do with JRD.  Please if you have any dogs connected in however loosely a fashion with known affected lines please have your dogs tested and then you can carry on breeding with a clear mind.

Ok,  something else to paend your money on....I had my 2 tested, DNA for several different things that GSD's can pass on to their pups. Mine so far are clean.  Would this be something they tested for when I sent the samples in??  I am not seeing it on the paperwork.

"If as you say Tracie all these dog breeders are crooks surely you would not be buying a puppy from them or using their stud dogs?"

That is not what I said Nikki you must have misread what I have written or i wasn't clear enough I'm not very good at this on line debating lol

There ARE SOME deceptive individuals within our breed. That CANT BE DENIED and unfortunately the breed suffers because of this.

"however to state that breeders would deliberately send in tests from a different dog I think are a little far fetched."

Not that far fetched, with the prestige and value that some of the well known stud dogs have.

"surely you would not be buying a puppy from them or using their stud dogs?"

LOL I  use stud dogs that I have thoroughly checked out and if I don't trust the owners 100% I will not use the dog,
As for pups the same goes I am not a very trusting person and I would rather breed my own :)
