Looks like lots of fence fighting. A dog can lose an ear/tip quick that way.

Could be alot of fence fighting, but if my dogs would continue to get beat up and loose ears from it, I would definitely come to
conclusion I need to change the way I place my dogs.

I wasn't defending it, just explaining for those who haven't seen it. I've seen it on a few dogs, and almost always as a result of a dog fight, often through a fence. And it can happen almost anywhere--it just takes a second.

But I'd think it should be a pretty rare occurrence, and most people would actively work to make sure it didn't happen again.

I've had multiple GSDs for more than 15 years and have yet to have a dog lose part of an ear.

Ripped off on a bucket handle that she'd taken the rubber tabs off. How she managed that (getting her ear in there), I'll never know. Why she didn't yelp or something and let me know she was stuck, I'll never know. I was just yards away from her. She just yanked as hard as she could and the ear stayed pinched in the handle.  Naturally, I rushed her right to the doggie plastic surgeon for some refining. LOL  It's an illusion; it looked much worse before he cut and reshaped it.

One dog w/a missing ear/part of an ear gets a pass/benefit of the doubt. More than one, highly suspect. More than 2.......do we really need to go there???

I was hoping we weren't judging a breeder based on a few ears.  Two of my male GSDs right now have bad looking ears.  I believe it is the cold, dry air and they are getting ointment massaged onto their ears daily, but it looks like their ears got bit my flies or possibly another dog.  They also get water in their kibble, raw egg, and salmon oil to ensure their skin and coats are not drying out and they are staying properly hydrated.

I don't know this breeder so I'm not defending her, in fact based on the overall picture I will steer clear, but I won't base that conclusion on some ears.

"Bad looking" and MISSING are different, VKGSDs. Clearly, I am not about to judge a breeder solely on a missing piece of ear, hence my pictorial post. But when more are missing ears than not...that tells me a bit about the overall care.

I never bother to comment on this site but seeing this thread made me think "finally they will see" but it seems thats not the case....I have talked to Judy Malone several times over the years. She has told me some mouth dropping things, such as..making a bitch whelp her pups in a 36in crate! they stay in the crate for about 4 weeks, doesnt matter the litter size. She has packs of dogs PACKS, thats how all those ears get ripped off, not fence fighting. I know people that have been to her past and present place with nothing good to say..well except her past location was 100% better.

I also have tons of pictures that I have gotten through email...and a worse one of Eik vom Clausberg. I did hear Eik made it out of her place, I am glad he didnt have to die there like soooo many others. Haaven't you ever wondered what happen to all those dogs she takes off her website? I was told a story that still gives me chills....her bitch had pups in the crate so she took her out to potty..well she comes back to find the crate door wide open, no pups...her pack had been lose in the house..now use your imagination. Also have an xray of a 2.5 yr female that had been mauled by her pack, its painful to just look at.

And I thought the picture I had of Eik was bad. This one has mine beat.

I have spoken to Judy Malone myself.  She has told me a few horror stories also. She has also told me she whelps her litters
inside in a crate.  She told me that last summer she lost quite a few litters having only one survivor from a litter. She claims
it was the heat that killed them. Really, I wonder why all the other breeders throughout Texas didn't have that problem...

She told me she has several puppies 6mos to 9mos running anf living together in a pasture.  She says that is how they live.
It is good for them because they have to compete for food and it makes them eat better.
Also the puppies that are cowhocked can exercise on their own, and  the cowhock condition can correct itself.  LOL. What brilliant ideas.

Here's a good one. She sy that if a male breeds before he is 2yrs old, it can ruin his temeprament.

I noticed that a particular puppy wasn't on her website anymore. When I questioned her about it, she told me she gave it away, because it was,
in her words, "FUGLY" and cowhocked.  It was out of her UKC top 10 bitch Jazz.  When I spoke to someone else that also speaks to Judy, she  mentioned
to me that Judy told her the puppy died. Fine the last time she was out, and two hours later, when she went back she was dead.
No explanation.  HMMMMMM. Wonder whats the truth?

I wonder why Judy uses someone else's address to recieve all correspondence from AKC. Could it be to avoid an inspection from them.
Also wonder why she uses VOM ALT-OSTLAND and SCHWARZEN ALDER as her two kennels.  Oh yeah, thats right, its her friend's kennel. But I
remember her saying it was so that not as many breedings would show up under just one kennel name. It would appear as though its two
different Kennels producing puppies.

I could go on and on. But I think most of the is repetative actions that also happen years ago.  A leopard never changes its color.

I hope people don't fall victim to Judy Malone from VOM ALT-OSTLAND, and or SCHWARZEN ADLER.  They are all one in the same.
Please do your homework and research before allowing yourself to be trapped like so many others did by her vast knowledge, which she does have.
She is a very sweet talker and can easily rope anyone into thinking she is this great ethical breeder. I know, because it happened to me.
