Yes Snajper I agree but you must certify the dog every year. He must "out" there. Right?

This is training but it shows that a good police dog can have a good out and still get the job done.

LAVK9,
I believe when a policeman brings out a dog he/she
has invoked a command of respect from a suspect or suspicious
individual. If my dogs were in this training exercise they would be off leash
sitting or laying down. But they would definitely be showing teeth growling
and barking. If the suspect  was showing any hint of aggression, ( they are in your face kind of
dogs). So they would nip at or bite. It is up to me to determine if there is a
need to use them. The amazing thing is how well they out.
Not a quick out but, slowly letting go and backing into the handler with the eyes
on the suspect. Once they have been outed they tend to be more reserved.

I like the argument you can't out a bullet once it has been released
from the chamber. So dogs can and do save lifes.

Well the video is a training demo to the public.I am sure that the dogs are a bit more amped when it is in a real situation but there is no reason for a dog to fly off the handle if there is no threat or command to alert. It is a waste of energy. I was asked by the one LEO out here why my dog didn'g go off on my friend that was in a body suit. I told him there was no reason. He isn't being threatening and I am not commanding him to alert. Why waste energy for no reason?  From what I have noticed is that all departments have their own training expectations and some don't care about precisness or quality of the dog or the training. Others are more critical of the quality, temperament, and obedience of the dog. Some go to K-9  police competitions and some think it is a bunch of crap.(more so a "sport" then real work)  It all varies across the states and even more different in the UK. Someone I know that is a police officer in London,England said that they are using Czech wolfodgs for police work. They have a great tracking ability and do well in the protection as well. Plus it is a bit intimidating having a wolf go after a suspect....especially since most people are afraid of them. lol (I would love to see that) I personaly expect more from what I see from  most K-9 units out there.
