I tend to agree, health certs and BH plus any sort of tittle (IPO/FR/PSA) or certificate (SAR/patrol) would help. Overall, I'm a big fan of getting more people to participate in activities with their dogs. Would certainly improve the overall "dog acumen".

excellent post Susie

Susie, once again Thumbs UpThumbs Up
This part of your post is very important:
To say a SchH ( sorry IPO ) trial is no test anymore is ignorant - go out there, start TRAINING several dogs, and you will see the differences by yourself.
IT`S NOT ABOUT TRIALS AND POINTS, IT`S ABOUT WORKING ABILITY, PRESSURE, CONCENTRATION, TEMPERAMENT, AND DRIVES UNDER PRESSURE:..
The months during training for a breeder are more important than the trial itself.
After training and comparing you may decide if this dog really is breedworthy or not.

Not much to add to that. There are 'breeders' on this post chiming in that have never
titled a dog in ANY venue, but are such proclaimed experts on temperment, nerve etc.
When faced head on with a nervy dog, they see 'fight drive' etcWhat Smile  I wonder if those thick
rose colored glasses they wear are sold off the rack or they have to get them with a
from prescription from Lenscrafters?

The thing is, lack of education has made it too easy for these slicksters to sell puppies
by means of hype on various bulletin boards, and pictures of dark sables with racoon eyes,
or the cute fluffy black and red puppiesShades Smile

One more thing, we've had the opportunity to watch a few trials this year, and what we have
found overall, is that judges are playing hard and fast by rules, they know everyone and anyone
has a video going, so they don't want any incidence of percieved impropriety to go noticed and
be documented then blasted across Youtube etc. If anything, they are being harder because of
this. I suppose, when all else fails, the women that have said it before can always fall back on
the excuse that they can't train because 'all the helpers want to sleep with them' Roll eyesTongue Smile

I do believe there are very good breeders out there that will breed an untitled dog.  The ones I know also work the heck out of their dogs too and most are titled or get titled, not necessarily before they are bred however.  But I do believe a huge part of the problem is that lack of education.  People are impressed by so little because they know so little.  Impressing someone with a barely mediocre dog doesn't take much.  I have a couple dogs.  One I consider to be an average bitch.  She's a lot more than I see being bred out there and she can impress the hell out of a lot of people, but I'd never breed her.  Though I'm sure if I did, i'd have an army of internet warriors claiming how great she was and how they just love her puppies.

I've never gotten a dog from somewhere I haven't seen a lot out of anyway.  Reputations don't mean a lot to me.  I realize there are legitimate reasons a dog might not be titled before being bred, i'm going to need to see more than a dog on the end of a leash barking and biting.  though I can tell a lot from that, there are many other breeders out there with dogs as good or better that are doing much much more.  I prefer to support them.

i know a polish woman who has at least 5 kids,( maybe 6  i lose count :) ) her husband is gone a lot driving truck.  She raises them, shows them, and sometimes trains with a club and a lot of times trains herself.  She's raising a family, and a damn fine one at that, and training not one dog, but often 2,3,4 at a time AND getting their show ratings (even workingline) AND titling them beyond schh I.  So if you're not titling at least some of your dogs, you're just making excuses and when you get too caught up in your own little world, the rest of it passes you by.  That goes for everything, not just dogs.

Zyta and her family are a perfect example of "getting it done". Well mannered children who have
respect for others, and a fantastic dog breeding program where they are raising and training AND titling
their own dogs
, like you said, most times without a club etc!

I recently bought a Bomber puppy, I also have a DDR German Import, and of course I have my fantastic Kevin Murrtal son.
Do I care what I put out in the German Sheoherd community, you better believe I do.
None of my dogs were inexpensive. Do I think that bdcause I paid more they are better.? HELL NO, I think they are the BEST, bdcause after extdnsive research, these are the dogs I deemed to bring to the table,(usually the picnic table).
It really is not evdn the cost of training that has kept me fron it.
It has alot to do with the shitty, arogant attitudes of many of the people involved in it.
I mean really, look at the disrespect shown, and the inuendos abiut the top people involved in the sport.
Imagine what the underdog endures.(if they can endure).
And yes, a couple of my dogs are with the police, a few are doing sport, most are just plain old, very loved, well bred pets.

And I think I care moee abiut what goes into the making of "my dogs", tgan many a big namex kennel.
I definately love my dogs and puppies more!

Workingdogz the long term goal would be for the registry to take over at some point and keep the records so I a breeder was out of business and a person meets the requirements to breed then the registry would then take over for the out of business breeder

Well I can tell you no helper ever wanted to sleep with me, & my husband is retired, not driving trucks to support me. I had to pay with my own hard earned cash to work my dogs, and I eliminated the dogs I kept with HOPES of breeding because all of them had health issues, including the pricey German bred pup I bought because his hips weren't up to par. I still worked them, training on my own, hoping to learn, at least. I'm not cranking out puppies, I'm caring for my aging husband, & providing a responsible home for the dogs I chose to keep. They are fed quality food, provided with quality vet care & loved & trained, not just dumped because they couldn't satisfy my ambitions. Still the training we did before we quit cost a fortune,  & I'm sure that IS an obstacle for many. It's fine to say just do it, help will come; but when I was out there with my dogs trying, there was little to no help.
And I wouldn't sleep with a helper to further the breed, so call me uncaring.....go ahead! Angry And then call my dog a nerve bag, I dare you! jackie harris
