YB, she is absolutely a sable....I would say she is a grey sable because the guard hairs appear to be more of a grey color than black.... I much prefer the black guard hair, but the color of ANY dog does NOT make or break a dog's ability to work..Color is just a preference......

I believe a pattern sable is one that has a sable saddle, but the rest of the body is predominately tan, red, or any other color, with little to no sabling affect...That is MY idea as to what a pattern sable is....Other people have different ideas as to what a pattern sable is..

Cinda, below  is a patterned sable...You can see she has a saddle that is of sable color......This is my opinion of a patterned sable. Thanks Mike, those are nice examples of patterned sables also....

JRANSOM- Nina is beautiful

Thanks Kim.
She's a great dog and a very funny girl!  Kelli drew a picture of Nina too and it came out beautiful!  She really captured that mischevious spark in her eyes.  Urso is a great boy too. I love them both!  Everyone has some really beautiful dogs!
The pic of the drawing is in the thread OT more art by LukaGS.  You'll be able to pick her out.

Thank you. there's a special place in my heart for dark, long-coat sables too. Haven't seen too many of them.

Not to be unkind, but some of these dogs being called patterned sables, look (and pictures can be deceiving- I know that!) more like poorly pigmented b & t's. Like I said, pics can be deceiving.

This is what I call a patterned sable:
www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/615144.html He has markings like his mother's...except his fur is sable and she is a bicolor.
