Jim, i am sure that you are not that naive to think that i am the only one with this knowledge, i have had several personal messages sent to me , ALL,  naming the same Dog, the only thing i will say Jim, is that if it was me who had animals fitting, then i would not hesitate, but i refuse to fire bullets,  let those people who it hurt comment.

   Paul Rattigan.

Hi Paul... shocking news if it's true.  Now, you may not want to fire the bullets, but you've loaded the gun and left us all guessing and worse... maybe using this male!

If you're sure of your info and you don't want to name him on here, please PM us, this sort of thing needs to be in the open, I find it really hard to believe that anyone would allow the use of their dog knowing or even SUSPECTING that he was passing on epilepsy.

And so it goes on the ostrich syndrome alive and kicking  that i am afraid is what is wrong in our breed today if we do not speak to each other and keep on hiding our heads in the sand, then it would appear our breed is doomed, it would seem that the attitude is well its not affecting me or mine so its not my problem Well that is where you are all wrong because it wiil eventually affect you if you dont do something about it - it will come back and bite us all on the arse but more importantly how many affected puppies will be born first, such a shame that people with this knowledge would rather have the breed suffer than help it.

This is totally against the grain for me to come on here and publicly to explain ourselves, but as this concerns us and our dogs I will, as I decided some time ago that this site, most of the time has other hidden agenda’s other than informing and helping others.
Sue, Paul, firstly let me assure you we have not in anyway, shape or form kepted this secret from anybody.
Sue if you are referring to us as not having a conscience don’t you even go there. This was the most horrific thing I have ever witnessed with one of my dogs, and even writing this now brings it all back, and if it is something you have never experienced, you really don’t want to, I think about it every day and carnt get it out of my head.
We have had so many emails and phones calls from fellow breeders about this I cannot see how anybody thinks that we had kepted this a secret.
Bazza let me assure you that dishonest we are not, and as we have been in the breed now for over 20 years now, and most will know that I am quite a vocal person as most of us are in the northeast and speak my mind when necessary.
The bitch you are referring to is Zentrum’s Torra, her sire is Ch. Gayvilles Nasko, as every body knows already, and she was put to sleep at 3 years old, because she had a cluster of Epileptics Fits a few weeks ago. We did of course inform the Sire's owners before anybody else.
I am aware that there are other animals sired by this male, that have produced this [for a fact] so yes Paul the common denominator is the sire as we have had the pedigree researched to put our minds at rest. We have done everything correct, and in my opinion, what the hell else do people want us to do, ring or email every breeder in the country. It is now to the sire’s owners to come forward.
We have had so many emails and phones calls from fellow breeders about this I cannot see how anybody thinks that we had kepted this a secret. Can someone please explain to me why you think that I should have come on this forum to tell all, when every one knows what happens on here. Nothing gets sorted, everything get blown out of all proportion, and everybody runs around in circles with there heads up there arses, and in the main people use this site as the basis for witch hunts, somebody said to me, “want to cause some shit put it on the data base”.

If there is any positive named dog, the best issue would be to give the information to Chris Hazell  c.hazel@tiscali.co.uk as she is collating information and looking into sires and dams having problems, and really looking back into the pedigrees to find out wher the problem lies and has already collated a lot of data on this,
Chris doesnt witch-hunt - she just hopes for what we all wnt on this board - transparency and knowledge to help us all choose a sire that isnt going to produce puppies that have inherent problems.
When Chris has done her homework with the informaton she has, anyone can ask her what her findings are, as they are unbiased and research based.   Mo

Karen, I have witnessed epilepsy... in my sister's boxer, a few years back now... I can tell you, that it's not something I'd want to see again either, so I sincerely sympathise with you.

I'm sorry that you feel hunted about this... not what you need on top of the loss of such a young bitch.

Karen sorry to hear about your female, epilepsy is not a pretty sight when your dog is fitting, i hope you dont feel that this is some kind of witch hunt because as far as i am concerned it was only about stopping more pups being born with epilepsy and i am so sorry that you have had to come on here and go through this hurt again but you have done so in the knowledge that you will have stopped more owners going through what you have and i for one thank you for your honesty.

Our sympathies Karen and Alan but truly I had not heard even a whisper about this until Paul posted what he did on this database, and I certainly did not accuse you of keeping secrets, I think you will find that suggestion came from elsewhere. I answered only on the knowledge that I had, i.e what Paul had posted.
I salute and commend you for coming forward so quickly, as others have said here, now Chris H. can research the pedigree's properly. Openess and Honesty is required in our breed, sadly those that are , are only too often castigated by others who pretend to be whiter than white but are not and have a far murkyer past than most. People in glass houses etc etc.
Good on You Karen, I am just so very, very sorry you had to come on here to talk about it but with what had been said already it was necessary, though very sad that it had to be. Bare in mind though Karen when you are talking about witch hunts on this database, I have been at the recieving end more times than most and I had only been honest all the way through and certainly have never started a witch hunt on anyone on this database. So as you said Karen, dont go there.

Deepest Sympathies

Karen, first off you have my deepest sympathies, i fully understand what you have been through. Secondly under no circumstances was i referring to you when i said dishonest, that is surely for the stud dog owner in question. They should be the ones making this information public knowledge and removing this dog from breeding, which i hope they have already done. I also hope they have informed all puppy buyers, and breeders who have used this male. I think you have been very honourable in coming here to say what you have and good on you, if only we could all be this honest the breed would be in a better state,. I do not think any of the comments here were aimed at you but at the owner of the stud. This will stop all the " rumours" and finger pointing, now that it is out in the open, the way it should be.

by paulie on 27 January 2010 - 12:01

Alan, Karen, you know my feelings on this matter, this topic was not posted in any way to cast  aspersions on your characters, i made the initial point because i was sick of reading this post, and either the GSDP, or the KC were being castigated for not having the good health of the animals at heart, when all the time this terrible thing was not only common knowledge, but was being discussed by people.
I  as your friend salute you for your honesty, and along with everybody else who has read this thread, empathize with you, because there is a feeling of,   it could have been us.  again you not only have my sympathy, but also my admiration and respect.

  Regards Paul.
