Workingdogz, your post puts a whole new spin on this breeder for me. Shipped a dog from Europe with a severe overbite without informing the buyer of the fault? I don't buy imported dogs,  so don't know the answer to this - didn't  this dog need a health certificate signed by a licensed vet who should have called the overbite to the attention of the breeder who should have already known about it?

Given that and the hip status, I agree with those who are saying Chrissy should get a full refund PLUS the offer to pay for at least half of the necessary hip surgery. How could a breeder do less? Identifying the breeder is at Chrissy's descretion, but I think most here are smart enough to be able to figure that out on their own, aren't they?

No agenda here.

If the hips are that bad, refund or replace or whatever, as per any guarantee/promise that was made.

But if the overbite was SO obvious (and I have not seen it) then maybe the pup should not have been shipped.

All of that said, any living creature will have defects (I even have a few myself, hard to believe as that may be ....) some will develop as the creature develops and and some can not be predicted.

Buying a dog unseen is a matter of trust. I am guessing who the supplier is, and I would encourage them to come on here and state their position and intentions.

This is how business should have been done:

Phone call from Kennel shipping puppy:
ring ring- "Hello Chrissy, this is ____, I am sorry to say this, but we have just discovered the puppy you have paid for has a large overbite, do you still want this puppy? or should we refund your purchase price ASAP? We have/don't have another male/female from same litter to offer you"

Can't make a phone call?  The email her!  NO excuse for sending this poor pup in the first place.  IMO, she was taken advantage of right from the start.

It should have been up to Chrissy if she wanted the puppy shipped, at least then she would not really have much

Chrissy, since the "cat's almost out of the bag"..would you be so kind as to tell us if your puppy arrived in the same aircrate as the one or two (memory a little off sorry) puppies the breeder/broker here in America got from the same litter? How was the puppy shipped, by himself or did he accompany littermates. I'm curious if you got nailed for the entire shipping fees too on top of everything else..

This is just a horrible situation overall, and the real victims are Chrissy and her pup. At a time where she should be enjoying him, pulling her out with aggravation, wanting to kill him for being a puppy etc, she is instead worrying about having to do yet another surgery on a pup not even a year old.
Once again, Chrissy is to be commended for sticking by this pup. I don't think a reputable breeder would have a problem with selling someone like you a pup!
You are obviously in it for the long haul.

I believe only a replacement is offered under the breeders health gurantee.

It truly is a shame for poor Chrissy, what a blow. But like everyone here I would like to highlight her perserverance and love for the pup. It's truly inspirational.

I agree Workingdogz. Chrissy is the sort of owner breeders should pray for.

Aloysius, you may want to pay very close attention to the outcome of this...in light of your quest for a puppy.

Thanks guys for your support; I'd think we'd all do what we can for our dogs so please, I'm just a normal girl who loves her dog. I think it was ~300 to ship him together in the same crate with 1 other puppy from the same litter. Honestly I'm quite beyond what the breeder can do for us since he didn't offer anything beyond his guarantee the first time around which technically he doesn't have to go beyond anyway. I'm more concerned about how to help Kaiser now so thank you all for your advice. If I do not receive a response from the breeder by later today I will give him a ring. Must go get ready for work now. :)

I bet if you wanted to BUY a puppy, breed to one of their studs, or buy a dog they would have got back to you in a millisecond..
For your protection/records, at this point Chrissy, I would insist on all communications with the breeder/broker be in writing.
No "he said she said" then. Just my opinion.

The whole guarantee thing is a moot point in my eyes, that puppy should not have ever been shipped to Chrissy without giving her the option of recieving him.

Who saw the pups first? Chrissy or the breeder/broker? I assume you both met at the airport to retrieve them.

The breeder/broker can do whats right, refund your purchase price and shipping. That will go a long way to rebuilding a tainted reputation.
If you were informed of the overbite in the begining, would you have taken the puppy? Probably not.

In the end, I hope you will post your entire experience with this breeder/broker here so others may learn from it.
While you have paid/continue to pay dearly, perhaps you can also pay it forward and help teach others.

Per her request I think our time would be better suited to helping the pup at this particular point in time.

Chrissy, have you reached out to any GSD rescue's to see if they know of someone?  As you know, I am here in PHX and if you need some assistance out here let me know.  I will call a place or 2 and see if I can get a better price quote.

Oh sure, I agree Ace, but I also think the breeder/broker should be called to task too.

We have offered Chrissy privately some help financially, and will do so here too. Chrissy, find a vet to do the surgery, and although it's not much, we will put up $50.00 to the vet of your choice.

Chrissy, have you had his elbows done too? You may want to do those if you haven't yet. That may also affect the decision to move forward with surgery.

The brunt of this should not be on Chrissy, nor should it come from donations, IMO, it should be a complete refund (including shipping) from the breeder/broker.
