 Thanks, Helen, will do!

Silbersee's comments about black are very interesting.  As soon as I get the photo problems sorted I will post a recent picture of the black puppy..(I had no problem before with my desk-top computer and a dial-up cpnnection, but recently my modem burnt out, I have not been able to replace it, now I am using a laptop with mobile broadband which is much faster but the photos will not post!!

DebiSue,
Is Echo the dog you are speaking of?.......if so....no worries(about making a mistake)...she is not sable......she is black & tan.
Thank Chris!.....WHEW!....I cannot keep all the numbers & variations in my head!
I'm just one of those people....that know it when I see it.......hahahha!
You are my hero!
Take care,
Robin

Oso........I would love to see a current pic of your puppy!  Last time I saw one......he was striking!....can't wait to see him "today"!

Has anybody ever used this online tool? www.tenset.co.uk/fk19/pp-dog-download-real.pl
I'm going to try to read it, but being a non science person I'm sure I'll have a rather difficult time. I hope it's at least correct.

PS. DebiSue, I agree. I would never have known those dogs were sable either. Good to know!

Thanks crhuerta.
That's a load off my mind.  Yes, that is my Echo.  I also trained today with the local breed warden and she also let me know I have a definite black and tan blanket back.  I think I make her laugh more than anyone she knows with my silly questions.

Thanks for the good discussion. Looks like the showline (ay-s that was referred to) will be come increasingly rare..A few  breeders that I contacted do not have puppies and the ones that had seemed to have sold out very quickly.. So why are breeders not breeding more of these lines ? Dogs like Timo/Arex/Torsten are simply amazing and it is sad that the line is dying..

GSDfan,

The sables are rare. Fewer and fewer each year it seems. There were two shown recently at sieger shows. One was #3 at the NASS and the other #8 at the USA sieger show. They are still out there and they can do well. My personal opinion is they may have a bit of an advantage since the color is becoming rare.

I discussed the reception of the sable color with the regional breed warden in the region where Timo lived and asked his perception on the sable color and how the color affected placings and why there were not as many sables placing high in the shows. His reply was he has no prejudice against the sable color. He felt the reason they were not seen in the top places was there are just not that many of them. The mathematics are not there to produce the quantity. The other reason was many of the top females breed to the VA dogs simply because they need to in order to have a chance to produce something with the pedigree it takes to be on top.

Kennel von Lotta has the sable female that was #3 at the NASS. I saw her in Apex and she's a very nice example. I have two litters from Ronaldo Arlett in VA with sables, there is a Ronaldo Arlett litter in Ohio. Two litters bred in NY and SC and a planned litter in SD. Ronaldo was bred last night to V Hellen Zenteiche a sable Champ Dakota daughter. This will be perhaps the only, certainly one of the few, conformation line sable/sable breeding in the US this year.

I'm excited about the litter. Hellen's mother is Nanni Zenteiche the littermate of Nero Zenteiche that was very influential in the development of the Mittelwest Kennel a few years ago. Nanni produced the VA1 female (SG8, V12 Germany, VA1 US) Quana Zenteiche. So far something from every litter combination I have from either Nanni daughter has produced a top 10 National dog. I think it's a very good track record and a valuable motherline. This is probably my last chance to get another litter from Hellen.

The combination combines the very successful motherline of Nanni and VA Ussi Arlett. I'm happy with the production on either side of the pedigree. If you like to research there's quite a bit of research you can do on both motherlines. Father on the mother's side, Champ seems to be a producer of big heads and substance. Father on the father's side is Kliff Trollbachtal. Kliff is one of the best  Quartz Templari gescendents who hopefully by now is recognized as being one of the few, very few dogs that consistently produce the working ability needed in the conformation lines. I think this may be my last opportinity for a sable that can work with the structure and genetic history to be a valuable addition to a breeding program.  I'll know in a few months how the combination worked.

The bad thing about the showline sables is that they all seem to be washed out. Why is this?
