joan and Valk, you cannot Judge all KNPV dogs by the work of one, some real good breeders and dogs in KNPV, but the german shepherds in KNPV have the exact same bloodlines mostly, as the czech dog mentioned by black malinois
I can show you better dogs from czech lines and worse dogs from czech lines, same as west lines, good and bad, but Black malinois is talking about czech line dogs when he doesnot even know some of them, or can make difference between west and czech dogs in a pedigree

About the video of police Mal:
Come on...
From what we can see from the video:
The guy was not armed, he was not really creating danger to those around him. Just being a PITA nuisance.
The LE handler was holding the dog back first of all as the man was touting the dog. Man turned his back and handler let dog get pant leg....and brought man down. Why should the dog actually bite his leg/skin?
It was perfect the way this dog worked „FOR THIS SITUATION“. (We are not talking about another situation or what MIGHT happen).
Why make a relatively calm situation worse?
Not all cops and police departments, especially in cities of w. Europe, want a man-eating police dog spectacle on the streets, if the danger level does not warrant it.
It doesn’t say a whole lot about the dog breed or dog's lines.

Valk,
I don‘t think I exaggerated...but I did paint with a too broad of a brush.
So I will go back....Not all eastern countries were government subsidized. But some. Especially the DDR.
Subsidation comes in many forms and not only in form of money. In the DDR, the government SED very much had it‘s hands in the happenings of breeders and the DDR SV. Everything went through the government organs. The dogs and breeding programs were very well documented, problaby better than anywhere at the time or since. GSD‘s were even sold to the west for hard western currency by the government. They (the gov.) decided what should be breed and for what purpose.
My sources are the Dalm books, my sister in law which was a veterinary helper in the former DDR, and other books/websites, and comments from people I know from the former DDR.
I won’t go into more detail, as maybe thread is going off course, but for example, for those interested...a report video from Spiegel TV (large german newspaper/magazine like Time/Newsweek) from 1994, five years after the wall came down reporting about 40 years of separation of the GSD East/West and some breeders taking about it. It is in german though but some interesting archival video clips of dogs. If some one wants more detail of what he is saying, just ask.

I'm not judging all, only critiquing that one in the clip.

Geez, the dam of this dog is an exact copy of Am./Can. s/l. maybe a little better angle on upper arm.
I'm sure the mental aspects are much different, just commenting on the physical.
jmo,
Rik

in the very first my post in this topic, i pointed out that i can't see any significant differences between nowadays western and eastern lines.
in general all of them oriented on the global consumer's market demand, regardless of their location.

ok. i must admit my bad.
could be that's newly introduced discipline in KNPV - collect evidence (like perpetrator's pants) for future court prociding.
Jessie, you're again looking at certain situation through dog's eyes but with human's perspective :)

by Jessejones on 05 September 2018 - 00:09
😂🤣😂.
Collecting evidence for future DNA or scent storage is what the future is all about, don‘t ya know!
And, guilty as charged.
I do look through dog‘s eyes. I don‘t think people are much different than dogs. Emotions and actions are often the same.
(Only people can be much worse, tricky and devious, HA.)
