...have a west german female ...vom edelwald lines..lots of hgh in her pedigree...she is extremely high drive...always moving..7 yrs old ..& out runs everyone..she would be a great pain in the butt to the average person...herdind dogs have to move..

Yes the lines mentioned and others are known for this becuase of their trialing record...but youdo not need to limit yourself  because of that..there are good  family lines  West and some  East that IMO can be suitable and trhive. It depends on your needs and goals and what type of herding you are speaking of... also would you be trialing only or actually needing for use with your livelyhood? And is sheep or cattle ?  I think working with a breeder who knows the family lines and dogs they produce and is aware of the traits, can help you be savvy on what to look for... At least it is a starting point...As for the training... OMgoodness  is a whole other ball of wax.  That will be much joy and also hard work. Enjoy the ride!
