I live in a neighboring state to Iowa & still had to drive 600+ miles round trip to WDC.  I wanted to go to AWDF but the extra distance made the choice easy.  I also drove to Carson City for Nationals.  My scores qualify me for the World Team Qualification trial, but my wad is blown-no money left!  I urged club members to attend WDC due to "proximity" & the great opportunity to see superior class of dogs & handlers in action.  None came to spectate due to weather & expense.

WDC was well run.  The venue was attractive.  The host club was awesome in their support of competitors, opening up their home field for training & socializing & even offered refreshments.  Trophies were classy & the surprise framed photo by Jeff Govednik of all competitors in action were outstanding.  All in all a class act!

Tracking was not as easy as it looked.  I witnessed competitive stress turn ugly.  Folks, if your turn up didn't go well, don't blame tracklayers, judge, field, etc.  Look to yourself & your training.  It's not pretty to see people grouse.  I must admit it's a tiny bit gratifying to see sore sports then not do well in the other phases as well.  Look 1st to your training & handling when things don't go well.  What would these people do if they got overseas & the conditions were even less uniform?  They would not represent us well if they react with the same petty complaints I witnessed from a couple of handlers.

Let's just all get along, learn something from our happy dogs & get out & train!!!

Steve1 The WDC was an all breed trial.

As for attendence I think the economy played a large part in having a small trial for a National. I also think that having the WDC so close to the AWDF (both Schutzhund USA santioned events and both all breed) very close (1 month apart) played a large part in the attendence. Another reason the WDC was somewhat smaller was probably due to the fact that it was announced fairly late. Entries were not opened until 4 weeks before the deadline. In other words, until after the AWDF's were over.  Keep in mind that these are just my opinions and thoughts. Personally, I am kind of glad it was a small event. There was a feeling of comraderie that I don't think would have been at a much larger event. Competitors pitched in and helped each other and they helped with the field work. There wasn't any bickering, no snide comments, no rudeness. You did not see little cliques of people here and there. To me that was the most important thing. People had fun. Schutzhund is supposed to be enjoyable. And to someone like me who really got fed up with the pissing, moaning, whining, political BS, it was awesome to see.

Speaking as trial secretary for the WDC I know there were a few glitches but what trial doesn't have glitches somewhere? I am still getting emails from competitors that even though they may not have been happy with their scores were happy with the job that was done.

My first post... and probably my last. :D as I do my best not to comment on these boards!!

I guess it happens everywhere, But do you know i have never seen anyone not accept the Judges findings over here as correct, I have seen a few with downcast faces which is normal for they are disappointed but they take it and get on to the next one, That is what i like about the sport in Belgium, My way in Sport is, Do the best you can and if you fail then go back out and work harder. Never give in really failure is not an option if you set out to do something.

 Skidoo,

I suspect/hope that with the advent of the Team Selective, and the fact that the events are ALL squeezed into a more or less 60 -day period, there will be some changes in qualification requirements, so that competitors are not financially  "tapped out" by the time they qualify.   Add to the raw economics are those "other" economics arising from the fact that so few of us are trust fund babies:  we work for a living and must take/get time off work for the big events, and balance those costs against other "real world" expenses.   Something has to give, and I am betting that will be the number of qualifying events.  Already, the AWDF is not a qualifying event for the Team Selective--but how many gsd people who entered the AWDF would have entered the WDC instead, had that been known more widely and timely? Maybe all that is needed is the Nationals and the AWDF to qualify for the WUSV  Selective and FCI?

Also, the Team Selective is to be held in either June, or August.   With the number of events crammed into April/May, it would make sense for the Team Selective to be in August, wouldn't it?  And, in that event, wouldn't it have to be somewhere that is not hot and humid, or hot and dry in August?  (hint:  that would be the PNWsmiley).

I hope that there is a change, as I have already heard from/of toomany wonderful people who are elegible for the Team Selective, who don't have the funds or time to compete in it and/or international competition.  Elimination of one event would go a long way toward avoiding that situation in the future.

Let's give the credit where it's due. USCA did not host nor sanction the AWDF Championship. It was hosted by Motor City Working Dogs and sanctioned by the American Working Malinois Association (AWMA).

I would like to say a huge congrats to Jason Wiggens, Dan Cox & Terri Limbaugh for taking 1, 2 & 3rd place at the WDC. All three from  Wildcat Schutzhund club in Kentucky, a training group of 7. Does anyone know if a club has ever took the top 3 spots at a national event before? Congrats to all competitors.

I don't know, but it's funny that those three went to Iowa and the AWDF was in KY.
