for me prepotent is a BS word , I believe in the importance of the combination
I wouldnot call a hypedog that got 300 breedings , among which are some great bitches without a doubt , and therefore produces 3 or 4 great dogs , a prepotent stud , but a lucky son of a gun

Linebreeding is done for prepotence. Does that make clearer sense? Like any term, I suppose it can be misused or taken out of context. Your disdain for popular (and prolific) breeding is very clear.

Prepotent does not mean only the male of a species, You can have prepotent Females as well.
The Word Prepotent is this in the breeding world. Take for instance the great Orry, He did the business on the Sports Side and he bred some great Dogs, But it did not stop there the Generations after this Dog carried on the line to keep his name at the Fore of the Sports Dog World to the present day.
Because the Generation of dogs of his line produced by his Sons and Daughters and indeed his Grandchildren etc, are still performing at the very top at the present time
That is what is known as a PREPOTENT animal, One which can pass its winning genes on for Generations and still perform in the top Bracket Just as Orry did himself
He is not the only Dog i use him only to explain what i mean

@ daryll , I dont care for popular breeding , I care for normal breeding , I ve been breeding dogs succesfully for 25 years , and done more inbreeding than you can google in a year
@steve , como is an outcross , out of eros who himself is an outcross , out of tom who is an outcroos , all the way back to verwin who is an outcross
who are you kidding here
every dog has parents thats only natural , and many people use famous parents on fathersside mostly , but how many percent of eros offspring are great dogs , and so on
on ronnys case , he can choose a puppy from any bitch being bred to his males to keep ONE new prospect
again , im not impressed by a male with 1000 plus offspring and two or three great names

No kidding, because that's obviously not what prepotent means. Maybe you could google the definition if you don't like mine. Your french is causing you confusion again.

Jeff,
Yes, I'm looking and planning for the future. I like raising my dogs form pups, but I may go for a young adult. We'll see and time will tell.

You are not getting it at all. I am talking about Orry, Now when i had the chance of picking out the Father of my Female, I knew the line i wanted to go and that was through to Orry simply because his Progeny over many generations had done exceptionally well and is a big Influence on the Sporting side over here in Europe i cannot say for elsewhere possibly where you live. So the mating i chose was a 5-5,4 back to Orry von Haus Antverpa. Now if or when the time comes to mate her she will again be mated to a Male which carries Orry Lines both sides of his Pedigree, However the Dog she is mated to will also have to be a top Performer in the Sports side he must be a quality working dog not just on Paper,
In part this is already sorted out although things can happen in 12 months but it is being planned. Plus if all goes well a Litter from one of her Pups at least the breeding part will be on paper ready with the idea if it happens but that is for the future and i may not be around to see it but who knows. and be sure i do not try and Kid you or anyone else
It was Jan -Feb of 2009 that i had the chance of picking a mate for Izzys Mother and as i said it was my first opportunitiy to do it as i had never bred dogs through 60 years, However i have studied Breeding most of my life so i knew pretty well what i was doing and when i told the breeder i said i was adamant that i was correct in picking the male for his female and i got my way,
As it turned out with the Dog i picked out went on later that year to finish 7th in the WUSV at 3 years old, and as you know WUSV Champion 2010. The Lines to Orry are very strong even though many generations have gone by that is what Prepotent means the ability for a subject to dominate through its Genes and Orry certainly has

There seems to be a consensus that prepotency exists but there is some uncertainty about exactly how it works.
I just tie a bitch in heat to a tree and then let 2 or 3 males loose. First one to get there wins!!!!
