She's fine. Its the world that's wrong.

Jenni, there was a whole diatribe about what a great time they had in the good old days of courting. She made it sound like since those days, he wasn't exactIly the same man physically... which is why it made it easy for me to draw a wrong conclusion. And we know what she did with the grass cuttings she claimed to mow... she used them to cover the piles of excrement. How they both got to the point of thinking any of this "Bart-Mess" was okay, is beyond me.

Jenni is quite correct that Janice is delusional and utterly sincere.
IMO, Janice believes 110% that what she does is the correct and proper thing. Nothing will convince her otherwise. She feels no remorse for anything simply because she sees nothing wrong with what she has done. She can not and will not take responsibility for her actions because to her, they are not wrong. To her, the dogs are not living breathing creatures worthy of proper care and respect. They are simply a part of her vision and dream of the perfect GSD. Test subjects that are a means to her end. Her hoarding behavior is not quite true hoarding like other animal or stuff hoarders. Hers is much more specifically directed. Janice collects specimens for her breeding program vision/delusion. She is not hoarding from another inner issue even though the actual physical situation is the same. The need to collect and have which is driven by her delusion is the same though and that behavior will not change. Given another opportunity, she WILL do this again.
Manipulative and persuasive people like herself often find people of weaker character or lacking something within themselves (abuse/low self esteem/desire for acceptance) to follow them. People like Janice are charmers, they have a certain charisma about them that can have a brainwashing effect. Over time, they can have people do many things they would not normally do.
History is full of such people. Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, Jim Jones to name a few. It would not surprise me if her husband is quite sane but has simply been brainwashed into Janice's program.

mobjack, perfect explanation....

Yes, let's remember he went through the same things she did- loss of daughter, etc. All would make him even more susceptible to her brainwashing.
Dead on, Mobjack.

Well I disagree. NO ONE could convince me it is the right thing to do to let a woman lie in her own waste until sores were all over her body and she was practically comatose.
Thankfully the law agrees with me and is charging him too. Both of them are at fault and should never be in the position to acquire animals or take care of the elderly again.

RS I have to agree with you. I could not be convinced of such a thing either. At least not quickly and not easily. I will not say never though. I am glad the husband is charged also. I firmly believe he should be and is at fault as much as her. He may have been quite aware intellectually that the mother lying there was wrong but been mentally incapable to do anything about it. Over time, slowly progressing neglect could very easily lead to the situation the poor woman was found in.
Time and apathy are amazing things. Especially when you live day in and day out with things being drilled into your mind. Stockholm Syndrome is well documented and very real. As is mob mentality.
Charles Manson himself did not commit any of the atrocious murders he is jailed for. Others did it for him because that is what he wished. Even to this day, some of his followers can not explain why they followed him and believed in such a monster. Some died not ever seeing him for the monster he was. Ted Bundy was a prolific serial killer. Some women fell prey to him easily, others did not fall for him at all and thus escaped. Jim Jones convinced hundreds of people to give up all their possessions and go to Guyana to live in a cult. Thousands of others, including family members of his followers thought the man was a wacko right off the bat.
History speaks, some people just can't hear it. Thankfully, the vast majority do.

Scarey but realistic insights, Mobjack. I'm sure glad I never met up with her.

Great thread.
I really believe this is probably a very accurate analysis by several of the posters.
I believe that she is on prescription medication probably starting from the time she lost her 19 year old daughter. If you keep being sad and depressed, they give you additional medications. I know a woman who ended up on 4 medications (prozac, clonapin, neurontin and something else). Don't worry, she was a school teacher..........
My mother was a hoarder (no animals and no garbage, just towers of neatly packed containers to the ceiling with narrow passage ways). So, I am fascinated by the Hoarders episodes. It seems like they follow different patterns of predictable behavior. Many times, their homes were overrun with animals in various levels of neglect.
From the looks of the video, the animals look like they were fed by bat-shit-crazy mess. They only mentioned being tied and fleas and poor sanitary conditions (feces and urine covered with layers of straw).
Just a nightmare. I believe that the people she conned were vulnerable and convinced by the fact that she believed her own scam.
