Why would you ask if I worked for OFA? Because I want to see them develop a valid test for DM that would include all forms of the disease that effect the breed and try to convince all owners to submit DNA samples that could one day lead to a cure? Are you suggesting that I have a financial interest in this test?

I try to encourage every GSD owner to submit DNA to any research organization that requests it for reasons that could benefit the breed.   DNA can also banked with AKC to use if needed, as needed. Why would any dog owner not want to do that? A simple cheek swab or blood draw is all that is needed.

There will never be an answer to any of that, Reggie, unless GSD owners submit their dogs' DNA to the database. They don't have to believe the test is valid,  they don't need to share the results with anyone. They can sell puppies out of an at risk and withhold the test results if that's what they opt to do.

yup, sounds like a certain politian from california. I will never just '' do it'' because someone says to just do it. I now do elbow certifcation on all my dogs. It was never required before by the SV. So, after over 25 years of participating in the SV korung with my dogs, i added another test, Elbows. .I believe in the common interest of breeders to better the breed is very important. But i need more than just banter on this chat room to motivate me. When I take my dogs to the vet hospital for tests,  I can see the x ray when my vet takes them. I can listen to his or her's opinion. He never says the x ray is fuzzy but submit it any way.

I never said do it because I said so. I am not a politician who promotes projects for my own gain. I have my last GSD, have never bred a litter of GSD's, and I personally have nothing to gain from your testing your dogs or not. I am not on the OFA payroll or paid by anyone to promote the DM test. Do what you want, makes no difference to me whether you have owned multlple Siegers or pets.

Blitzen my comment was as to why some may feel that way.  I can see both sides of that coin.  I have some very personal feelings on that matter so my personal opinion I will keep to myself.

Reggie.
