Head
The head is wedge-shaped and in harmony with the dog^’s size (length app. 40% of height at the withers) without being coarse or overly long. The head should appear dry, and moderately wide between the ears. Seen from the front and side, the forehead is only slightly domed, the center furrow is either absent or only slightly visible. The length ratio of skull to face is 50 : 50%. Skull width approximately equals skull length. Seen from above, the skull slopes into a wedge-shaped muzzle. The stop should not be pronounced. Upper and lower jaws are strong, the bridge of the nose should be straight, not a Roman nose or dish-faced nose. Lips are taut, well closed and of dark color.
 
 

So are all of you gentle trying to tell me that if I don't get my black GSD within the next 5 - 7 years, my choices will be different flavors of these on this thread?  Please, Lord, I hope not.

There are some heavier heads about, that cannot be denied, and photos
provided by Lineage and others prove this.  Personally although I had
seen one of the OP pics of THAT dog before, I have never seen another
'Shepherd'  EXACTLY like him - I do hope I never will, and that however
much of a trend there is now towards some 'stallion' dogs having larger
& more lippy heads  (the latter something the Standard, btw, actually proscribes,
so there must have been a few lippy/jowly dogs around since the beginning) that
it does not develop into a parade of such  monstrosities.  What I think will happen
is that this will become a semi-popular novelty for a while and then fashion will
change again and it will fade into obscurity.  We saw that happen in the 80s
with the fad for exagerated 'heavy bone', where every so often you saw a
young dog with HUGE 'knuckle'.

Boy, we can justify anything in this breed....that's how we got to where we are. They LOOK impressive though, and I guess through rosé colored glasses that is important.

I'll take it one step further, many of you will continue to breed or buy pups from the exact same lines as these dogs, if it was a health concern you would treat it like the plague.....but it's purdy so it's not so bad...smh!

IF I EVER, bought a German Shepherd pup, and it grew into a dog that looked like that, I would seriously be pissed!

And you are right Susie, although when I get a new dog, I don't care where it came from, even tho some go for pets, I try to maintain a German Shepherd that conforms to the "German " Standard, because that, for the most part, is the correct standard.
I also think that by the choices I have made in buying Shepherds, It shhould be pretty clear, Ithink the German Shepherd,as a whole, should be bred, true to standard.
