I Myself have only one kind of German Shepherds.

why shouldn't the GSD be exactly what it was created to be - an all around versatile dog suitable for not only show but work? It was created to be best in both. German shepherds were not bred to be just for looks or just for work, Max created the breed to be not only a pleasure to the eyes, but an all around package...

Dantes in answer to your first post--God Forbid the lines should get mixed up. Hate to tell you, we'rte already doing it and making some of the nicest working mutts I've seen in a long time. So I vote Hell no to making them individual "breeds"--they are one breed the GSD...........

While it technically tempting to speak to splitting the breed, particularly when we look at the marked differences in the American Show Dog versus the German Working Line dog, it is simply not practical...Furthermore, given the propensity for humans to screw things up, inevitiablly once the "split" took place, there would be "line" differences or tendencies that would become more pronounced and through time we would have splits within the splits...
I think on a semantic and ethical basis the best efforts that individuals that truly care about the breed and have a vision to staying true to intent and "entire" standard can do is NOT compromise. Not excuse bad temperment or bad structure to breed ONLY animals that absolutely should be bred. Unfortunately, we are human, and we are all going to have a slightly different vision or interpretation. Hopefullly in countries like the United States that don't have an organization like the SV that "actually" controls the breedings to the registry, people "volunteer" to do the right thing whether that be through the USCA, the WDA or whatever, hopefully enough individuals "give a shit" to open themselves and their dogs to critique from eyes and minds that are wiser than themselves....
Its a committment that has to happen on an individual basis and unfortunately splitting the breed does NOT tidy up the messy issue..
