Yes I know what to look for and there is no smell coming from the discharge, and it's a red color,
with no brown or green, but thanks for the heads up, I really regret not doing a c-section on the 58th or so day.....quess there's no do-overs in life....
And boy, what a big pain in the A-- Tessie is, she probably thinks I'm hiding some pups from her, I had to sleep in the dog pen up until last night, (cramped quarters to say the least!) Tessie finally slept alone with her pups.
I was starting to notice she was manipulating me, she's one smart cookie!!

Paula, why would do a c-section on the 58th day? To do that, you would've had to know there was trouble brewing. You had no idea anything was awry; you can't second-guess yourself.
Capri always has discharge for close to 2 weeks...decreasing every day, but still little bits here and there on occasion. Tessie's pups are young enough that red discharge is still totally normal, which you know, so try to relax and at the same time keep a close eye on everyone.

Of course discharge is normal for even up to 3 weeks or so. The FACT that I am trying to get across is that there WAS SOMETHING WRONG IN ONE OF THE UTERINE HORNS. Right now no one knows what that was or is. The discharge change and her temp going up will tell the tale as time goes on, but if she were mine I would take her in. Maybe even culture her and start her on a round of safe antibiotics to make sure all turns out OK and head off any possible trouble, especially when things are not right. But that's just me. Nuf said.

djc, I took the pups to the vets cause one had congestion in her nose, she got sub-q fluids
and a shot of amoxicilin.
The vet gave me Cephalexin for mom, and the pups should get the antibiotic while they nurse.
I failed to mention that Tessie had kennel cough 3 weeks before she delivered, it was very mild, I had gone to a training place and brought it back, my young lab and her mom and one other young shepherd got it.
It's been gone for at least 2 weeks, but maybe that was the culprit.....
Tessie was all better and healthy when she delivered.....
Last time I dealt with kennel cough was back in 1995 and out of 4 dogs I had only one got it.
I don't do the kennel cough shot.
