I understand, thank you for explaining. :)
Aack, unfortunatley my boss called me last night and said that next month my route is changing to the.... "fun" part of town. So the pup is unfortunatley looking out of the question, so we are discussing getting a young adult now... I'll need that deterent more than ever and cannot wait for a pup to be old enough to be able to say "hey, thats a bad guy... grr!"
But thank you all again for the wonderful advice! I'll be copying this over to a word doc for future referances for sure!

If you are going for an older dog as a deterrent, BE CAREFUL and do your homework! People will try and sell all kinds of older dogs have them marketed as working line, protection dog, great prospect etc, you get there and if you know anything about dogs it is obv the dog is not a protection dog it is a scared, unconfident, unsocialized dog with serious avoidance issues causing aggression, or it is just hell on wheels bc somebody got way too much dog couldn't control it and stopped trying. Depending on the dog some of those problems will ruin the dog for working prospects. It is a common misconception that every dog will bite, and even if they do NOT all of them do so appropriately. People will try and sell you anything esp if you get an unrespectable breeder, or an inexperienced one and they hear you say my first GSD, and deterrent... So Just be careful.

I know of a nice dog. I dont own him I just heard about him being available. If you want a contact for the dog, let me know. He would come with hips done and has some protection foundation.

Dawulf, check out the dog GSDPack knows of. If you're going the older dog route, be careful and make sure you "know" who you're getting the dog from.
Prison Bitch is also available, if you want way older. I don't know if you want a dog that old, but she's "been there, done that," suitwork and all.

Wow Now that's a name!! LOL That would be a hilarious name for a PD dog! Imagine the handler on the street saying "prison bitch platz", "prison bitch blieb" especially with a crowd of on lookers! LOL

Her name isn't really Prison Bitch...but she got that nickname because she used to work in the prison system. She's a very nice dog, 6yrs old, and deserving of a nice home. She's no pushover though;-)

Couldn't be a pushover and work in the prison system. Still gonna have to use the name it's too good to pass up. Imagine the headline "Prison Bitch finds 52lbs of cocaine in routine traffic stop". LOL I never would have dreamed of naming a dog that, but that's irony at it's best.

Her name is actually Mica (pronounced Mee-kah). My friend and I are just a little twisted, so "Prison Bitch" it is. ;-)
