Absolutely agree, Shelley!   Why those so set on slamming  and blaming USCA  for everything from the rain  to their hemorrhoids are  so disingenuous as to totally ignore REALITY, as in the crappy economy where gas has exceeded $4 a gallon, is beyond me.   Let's face it:  the days of decent hotel rooms for $39 a night, and car rentals that really are only $100 for a three-day weekend, and a real breakfast for less than $5 are OVER.   Some of us don't even spectate at events that are only two-hours' drive away, as we once did.   I remember when I thought nothing of zipping up to  British Columbia for a trial, driving back home each day.  Now, I don't even think about going up, unless (a) one of my close friends is entered, so I can cheer them on and support, and (b) there is a full trial.  It is not worth burning a tank of gas for only 6 entries at a club trial.  Even the number of entries at club trials has decreased--clubs that had consistently had full trials for a two-day trial, now have only a handful of schutzhund entries, a few Bs and an Fh or two.   Nothing like what it was three years ago, and it has not a thing to do with JA, USCA politics or anything else, other than the economy, as evidenced by the same effect on DVG and WDA  trials (you know, where all those disgruntled former USCA members supposedly went), and Canadian trials.

And, let's not factor in the simple, clear fact that so many major, national events have been crammed into the same 60 day period.   Even when the economy was good, that "embarassment of riches" would have been costly enough that one event or another would have suffered from reduced support.  Simple logic.

But, don't  let clear facts, logic and reality sway you!   Wanna blame USCA for the floods in the Mid-west, too?  How about all those tornadoes--that must be because of JA! smiley

If a club in Ohio had bothered to bid on hosting the event, it might well have been in Ohio.   Ooops, reality entering the equation again, sorry. smiley

Shelley:  Shame on YOU!   You had to bring up that monsoon event, didn't you?   I still have nightmares about that weather!!  Only a very well-run and well-financed , and well-connected club like O.G. Buckeye could have dealt with that situation at all  I will never forget the  disrespectful, rude and self-absorbed behavior of some of those exhibitors who trashed that beautiful private estate.  I still wish a few of them had fallen in the mud.

I guess the economy had nothing to do with the WDA Nat having a smaller entry than it did last year, either.  Oh, no, the JA didn't make it bigger????     Really?   Well, damn!!  Oh, but that must be apologist, huh?  wink

Perhaps you should step out of the shower you are sharing with Johannes

Make sure to thank you mom for helping you with the insult....that would have been comedy gold in 1998

Anyhow... It was our club that ran the event...

for the most part things went smooth with the exception of a problem on the tracking field... the track were delayed but still ran within the allotted time.

The weather sucked and we ran through the stadium with very few delays... We had a cookout planned for Saturday night that was canceled due to the weather...

The closing ceremony went quick and the trophies were handed out directly after the raffle...people were on the road by one...

Perhaps Mr. Duderino might benefit from getting an ultrasound of his arteries...as it appears that no oxygenated blood flows above his shoulders...

but then again habitual auto erotic asphyxiation might have cased some cumulative brain damage

faq2, don't you remember?  I won the AWDF and have done so for the past 5 years.  Don't you remember?  You were paired with me.

No wait, that wasn't me, I don't even have a dog.  I forgot.  I just went to walk "the dog" and found out that I don't even have one.  I do however have some really nice fish, and a toad.

I agree, I really wanted to go, I talked to Al some time ago and I really wanted to go.. however between my town and IA a ticket for me and my dog would have been over $600 bucks, then entry, then food and hotel... by the time I was done calculating I scratched my head. I coughed up over 5 K for my school... it was OVER. No go for me and my dog.  I had no extra 1200 bucks for fun time.. for some it is OK, for me, it is quiet an amount.
FOr the quality of the event I dont know but I sure have great time every time I attend an event like this.. in Slovakia I had to trail my dog on a meadow with piled cow shit around the borders, rabbits jumping out of holes in the meadow, the judge being so hung over that he had to go and throw up in the middle of a routine and in protection one of the permanent blinds was missing because the "boys" were doing something with it the night before the trial.. hell we all had fun.. especially after we found out that one competitor forgot his precious dog tied to a tree in front of a bar two miles down the road.... make it the best you can.
Cheers and have great time training, it is all about fun..

Your post made me laugh
I bet it was hilarious, Dog left tied to a tree 2 miles down the road and the Judge throwing up. Comedy of errors so long as all took it the right way but never heard the Like at a Trial before Really funny

With the sole exception of national events held within 2 hours' driving time back in 2001, every national schutzhund event I have ever attended cost me between $1200 and $2000. for air travel, hotel, rental car, meals, memorabilia, trophy sponsorship, contribution to competitor expenses, etc. I attended the USCA nationals in Iowa and have NO reason to believe that they hosted anything but the same kind of well-run fun event.
