When dogs are found with tattoo's. call or e.mail TATOO A PET, THEY ARE A NATIONAL REGISTRY,  1800 828-8667  (1 800 TATTOOS) EASY ENOUGH
in business since 1972   see www.tattoo-a-pet.com.

They have agents all over the country and Canada that tattoo, and the #'s are registered.
problem is, breeders are tattooing and not telling people to register.
same with chips, many are not registered, and with no scanner that works on all chips, it is a problem. Done right the tattoo being visible is more effective than the chip, and won't give cancer.

I posted him on a German Forum to find out if anybody recognizes him or can find out if the Tatoo is from the mother organization.

Alright.

Can you check if the O is a 0 (zero?)

The tattoo number could be from Germany but the only place that has tattoos that starts with an S is Baden Wuerttemberg (the state where I am actually from) BUT they do not have an O in the number, however, zeros are out there a lot. So if it is from Germany, and he has a zero in his tattoo instead of an O he could be from Baden Wuerttemberg and be traceable.

Another option would be the Netherlands. Someobody said that he's had a dog whose tattoo number looked very close to Santos number. However, the German number, if is a zero, we are definitely onto something.

I will keep you updated.

Thank you, Mrs. K--it will be interesting if this tattoo number can be traced, especially since to date there does not appear to be anyone searching for this dog. He's very clearly well-bred, and is reported to have a simply *lovely* temperament...the only scenario I could understand whereby the owner wasn't making inquiries after him, far and wide, would be if the dog was lost in conjunction with something happening to the owner that prevents them from seeking him.

Did anyone ever adopt this beautiful dog? Or did the tattoo ever pay off? Thanks

by hexe on 11 July 2011 - 04:07

The tattoo number was never successfully traced, but this gorgeous boy was adopted by a fellow from New England (an experienced GSD owner) and his lovely longcoated young female GSD. He quickly settled in and is now safely ensconced in his forever home. :)

good thats nice to hear.  my imported pup from the vet and the people handleing the import for me both told me the wrong tatoo number as they couldent decifer the o 0 and a few other letters nor how long it was i was very shocked with my vet when they red it off to me and i was looking at his passport from the breeder with the number in it. they got 8s confuzed with 0s and all kinds of stuff it was sad.

Stunning dog, so sad to end up in a rescue such a shame, really glad he has a happy ending too, and was neutered.

Poor boy.  Some jerk loses him and HE gets castrated.  Wish we could do the same to the "owner."

by hexe on 16 July 2011 - 04:07

MVF, the dog doesn't give a f*** about having been castrated. He's a very happy, loving dog who is now in a happy, loving and secure home.

My current dog was dropped off at a High Kill Shelter in GA and she came from the Sunami Kennel in Czech.
People can be dumb!
Hope you find more info on your dog!
