Maybe a friend of hers is on this DB and has read this thread and can tell us. If she has lost him, she will be devastated to the core. She told how he knew when someone needed loving. I cannot remember her words that she used to describe him. If that is the case, she will not want to write, I am sure.
And in addition some very evil people have come onto this DB and just destroyed threads, so that good people and knowledgeable people do not want to post and be torn apart about nothing. I want to learn all I can and threads are destroyed. So very sad.
When she wanted to help a GSD person get a grant, these evil people attacked. Now watch they will come after this thread now.
Might email her off this DB to get info. Also do a search on her and Nemo and dwarf GSDs. She had a lot of good into there and if you do not look it up soon, it will disappear.

Couldn't agree more - evil.
I posted a thread asking breeders whether they are now testing for Pituitary Dwarfism as a matter of course, since a non invasive test is now readily available. Not a single breeder has replied. From the lack of any kind of response (except from mackenzie) one can only guess that although the test is available, the majority are not using it. A few are, but they seem to be in the minority. What is the point of developing tests to help reduce the problems in the breed if the majority of breeders ignore them?
Anything I have ever heard or read about dwarfs has said what wonderful characters they are. However some can have very severe health issues, and so if we can now avoid causing harm why don't we??

This is a very interesting article.
There is an ad at this time at the top of this data base that shows a pup for sale. That pup looks just like the face of a dwarf!

Here is the link (same site) to the details of the DNA test for PD.

How would you know if you don't have any Dwarfs? You wouldn't!! My friend saw a pup needing help and stepped in, do I think she was wrong? NO WAY!! That pup is a great dog, full of life and energy!!! Yes she has some problems, but hell we all do!!! Did she try to sell her for personal gain? NO!!! She kept her and dealt with the problems at hand!! Stop being so closed minded and heartless, people do different things for different reasons... This DB has truly gone downhill!!!

Some place recently I read that the blue coated dogs have I believe skin problems and if they do probably the livers do also. I am not condemning either color or the dwarfs. If we take in those dogs, we have to know there will be a lot of expenses and care needed. I would just rather not see them born. So many dogs are abused and these ones seem to be more at risk for abuse for lack on health care for them.
Just my own opinion.

Not sure who your post is aimed at. If I had a dwarf I would not kill it. I would do my very best to give it the best life I could, and I know I would love it deeply. I am not condemning anyone who is compassionate and does the right thing.
However, like K9nme what I am saying is that it would be better to avoid producing them in the first place. I certainly would want to try and avoid creating a puppy that was going to have a lifetime of problems if it were within my power, which with genetic testing it is. Don't you agree with that?

why do you think they didnt reply?easy, because THEIR dogs dont have it!and as long as their dogs aren't tested they wont have it!WHY?because they'll keep culling them away and saying nothing!i refer back to my original post on this thread,(before it degenerated into a muck fest).
i think you'll find very few dwarfs pups are appearing from experienced breeders,(they'll recognise them early, cull them and SAY NOTHING),the few that are about,i would guess, come from occasional breedings, and these breeders fail to recognise the symptoms and duly care for the pup, thinking he's just a runt and not getting fairplay.
And again just guessing,i would say there are quite a few carriers out there,i dont think we'll ever know because the gsd, just doesn't need any more problems and i think they'll be quite happy to let the sleeping dog lie on this one.,

Yes, I know why there are no replies, but it just frustrates the hell out of me. However I was hoping that the ones that are testing would come on and say they have tested and perhaps that may encourage others to do the same. How bad can it be to own up to the fact that you ARE doing something right?
