Simon you are so welcome! You're girl is so pretty and I don't think she looks too puny. :) I agree with everyone she needs a little more time to reveal her true personality. GO to that leerburg website and do a search on soft or sensitive dogs. It will give you some guidance on helping her bond with you while still teaching her. Also, there is a video and article on there about building drive with your pup. This is a very good resource as there are thousands of articles on this site. I can't say enough about it but there are others in SDA clubs that can help you. I don't think you did anything wrong from what you say as far as speaking to your breeder and the way it sounds you could definitely use a dog to deter people from your shop. Just giver her time like redsable was saying and if she doesn't fit the bill, try again. I would definitely give it time. My first GSD female as well took till ab 8 months as well to show aggression.

Simon,
You really do not know enough about dogs to really know what you want. Even with the working line you will find dogs that are prey driven but not enough defence or will not work in a civil manner. When you get one of those types it is difficult to get them to alert at the correct time. You want a dog that is slightly civil also known as a dog with an edge but at the same time is not fear motivated or one that that is a liability.
Some breeders are really good sales men/women. They will tell anyone that they have exactly what they are looking for, no matter what the customer is looking for. BTW yes SL can work and some are really good. Chances are slim that if YOu or I were to buy a SL they would not be very good. But they are capable of barking at strangers. Just like if you were to ask me if I can play basketball I would tell you "yes" . The whole truht is that I was never very good at it. With practice I can get better, but I will never be good enough to play for money unless I were playing against a kid in middle school.
You need to greatly increase your knowledge. Visit clubs like schutzhund or PSA. It would be imposible for you to look at a green dog and know what you are looking at or even more difficult look at a trained dog and know what you are looking at. I say this because there are good trainers who can mask the dogs short commings. I will have to disagree about seeing videos. He would not know what he was looking at in the video.
My suggestion is see how she is and if she is not hat you like then in about two years get a second dog.

If looks are everything, your puppy is very nice looking... The parents are very good dogs and the pedigree would indicate that it should have some ability.
If what you need is a GSD to scare the bejeezus out of prowlers and to keep at the business, call your local GSD rescue and ask them for a dog along those lines. It will be neutered/spayed and already grown and you should be able to get it for about $300.00 or so in adoption fees.

She is a beautiful pup, and definitely not underweight, nevermind 30 pounds underweight. (If those are pictures from now and not before she left the breeder's place)
She looks at a perfect weight for her age and size/structure.
Sorry you are so disappointed with her, but there is hope.
I have a showline female who is two years old and I thought she was "lazy" at first too. I got her at 8 weeks. She has always been very soft mouthed too, meaning when I would try to play tug with her, she would take it very gently and let go as soon as she felt me pull in the slightest.
What I did recently, was start letting her watch me work my high drive workingline male and my drivey workingline puppies. I kept her penned up and wouldn't let her play... It seemed to make her jealous and frustrated, she wanted to have fun too! Now this girl TUGS and fights. She is the same size as my little 65 pound workingline male and she is stronger than him- she's can pull me down if I take my attention off her when we're tugging, and she can BITE.
With your puppy I would suggest some drive building videos, as well as getting her in a puppy circle at one of the SchH clubs in your area.
Best of Luck, would love to hear updates.

I was shocked since I didn't think she had it in her. She is also not sensitive to corrections at all which is nice.
You offered Simon some sound and encouraging advice, it was a good read.

I took her back home and she seems more active than other days and eat more.
About her weight, now I feed her 2 meals a day, 1LB Instincy raw beef mix and 1/2LB burger meat, the vet told me female GSD stand limite was 55LB, and she is bit small but may catch up later.
I'll take her to the local Schutzhund club next week for the evaluation, and there's "Sit Means Sit" trainer comming tomorrow to see her too. BTW, anyone has experience with "Sit Means Sit"? I'm little worried about "E-collar" training menthod.
Thanks
