How can you tell if a 8 week old Puppy is or will be out of control just by looking at it, If you can 100% say that you can tell a Pup of that age is just a very highly driven Pup or will be one out of control then you stand to make a lot of money as a Puppy Grader at 8 weeks old,
You may of course make a lot of money but you would have to give a cast iron gurantee that what you say is right otherwise you will stand to pay out more than you earn
Which is it

Blair Bulit,
When I started my search I was smack dab in the middle of the country. Where are all of these dogs you are talking about who met with my criteria? All you said is "if you look hard enough" Well... I did and did NOT find any... I'm sorry but this is getting irritating to try to explain to you.
As Sue said "This isn't a debate, it's a matter of personal preference."
The breeder I found overseas met all of my criteria and all 3 of my dogs from him came from long lines of exceptional working pedigrees who lines have repeatedly proven themselves.
So why do you care where people buy their dogs from anyway if you don't even know where to find these inexpensive dogs from quality lines?
Are you a breeder? If so, Do you have SchH III titles on all of your dogs? Are they breed surveyed and OFA's? Do you have dogs in your pedigrees, up close who are winning on regional, national and world levels? That is what I was looking for and that is what I got.
Would I buy from a breeder here if they had what I was looking for and I could go and see the parents working? Yes I would! In fact I have met several excellent breeders here in the US but their prices are not within my budget...
So instead, I formed a good relationship with a breeder overseas who sent me details about every dog in his pedigrees, most of which he either bred and trained, or at least knew personally... their strengths, weaknesses, how he trains, what he feeds, how to handle certain behavior and training issues.
I have videos (not just 30 second clips of a dog hitting a sleeve, but entire routines) of parents, grandparents and other relatives of my dogs. As I said I also have a friend who lives over there, and has been involved with the dogs nearly his whole life and he has given me his opinions of breedings I am interested in, as well as HIS opinion on the parents...So although I may not know the parents or have seen them in person, I have a very good idea of what I can expect in my puppies/dogs...
Pardon me for bragging, but the newest addition to my kennel is a daughter of a dog who place very high in the WUSV this year. I don't know THAT dog personally, however he is only 3 years old and I don't think I need to meet him in person to know what he has accomplished. The dam to my pup is an excellent producer and SchH dog. So again, even though I bought the pup "sight unseen" I got her at a very fair price and think my odds are pretty good that she will make a fine Schutzhund dog... Have a great night. Sorry for being so long winded.

If being a good sch prospect is all you are worryed about i guess all you can go on is the acomplishments of the pedigree. And i am happy you found just what you wanted you are lucky. The whole point of this is that people keep complaining they dont get what they payed for when buying oversees. And again i am happy you are one who did get what you want. Let me let you in on a secret there are more inexperanced people buying these dogs now. If you look at theAKC regestry this year gsd are now number two. Now how many of those people will title and work those dogs. I will tell you way less than 25% the rest want a house dog that will protect there familys and to do that you need more than just the ability to win a sch match you need smarts and temperment how do you tell that on video or what the breeder tells you?

Where do you get your statistics? It seems to me, a lot less people complain about imported pups than the amount of people who complain about pups purchased locally. In fact I don't read "horror stories" daily about people who were ripped off when importing a dog. Where do you get this stuff?

Give me your stats how many of AKC regestered dogs in US have a sch title look at the numbers of new titles by the sch club of America and compare that to the number of regestered gsd that same year that will give you a clue and like i said its not all about sch ability you have to be able to live with the dog unless you plan to keep him pined untill its time to work

Just for interest i guess you may well have your nose a little put out of Joint because perhaps folk are not buying from there home country so much of late
Now i am not being funny or nasty but would you give me the name and Link to your Kennel so i can make my own mind up on what you at least have in your Kennel, I sure am not going to knock them or praise them it is just for my own interest, I have tried to locate it but not been very lucky at doing so, For at the end of the day it is everyones choice where they buy from

I see you couldn't answer my question - why am I not surprised? You obviously know nothing about schutzhund if you think people have to keep them "pined" unless they are working them. Keeping dogs kenneled has to do with not believing dogs are better off in the house, it has nothing to do with whether or not the dog competes for titles. Most of the AKC registered GSDs are American Lines and couldn't obtain titles under the best of circumstances, regardless of who handled them.

Sue and Steve,
I want to give up on this thread, yet none of my questions have yet been answered LOL I want to know where these lucrative kennels are. And I keep getting that I just got "lucky" importing.
Blair Built,
Yes I have freely admitted I am a sucker for a fancy pedigree... The only people who aren't, are probably just jealous. If videos and the word of your breeder and one of your friend's are not good enough for you, what is? Driving to a breeder's house halfway across the country and watching a dog for 10 minutes before you have to turn around and go back home? Sounds like just as much of a risk to me. And if you read through the "I Just Got Screwed" threads at least half of them are from breeders here in the US. And they went and met the breeders, watched the dogs "work" etc. People may disagree with me but I feel like not getting titles is lazy. Sure some people don't, and have their reasons but when I buy my own puppies I want titles.
And I am an inexperienced handler, I don't keep that a secret. That is why you will not see me on here offering up training tips. I am one of the ones asking questions.
I got my first import three years ago and just started his SchH training 6 months ago. He is a natural, and had I not had a minor health problem that set me back we would have been going for our BH this coming weekend. So his training has been slow, but I don't care if it takes me twice as long as it does the experienced handlers, we will get our titles. On all of my dogs. My second is 5 months old and she has only been to training a few times and she is quite the hit at my club already. My director said both of my dogs are "a lot of dog." And very intense. My third is only 9 weeks old, so we'll see in a few months what kind of dog she turns out to be.
And what makes you think that a dog has to be penned up outside to be a good Schutzhund dog and that the ONLY thing I am looking for is a good SchH prospect? You have grossly misjudged me. My dogs are also part of my family and have excellent temperaments...

Here are a few pictures I just wanted to share with you so you can see that just because I imported my dogs for working, and for getting titles, does not mean that my dogs are penned up until worktime. They are very much involved in my family and I don't know whether they would attack and intruder or not, since we haven't had any. But I think four GSDs is enough intimidation in itself to give a potential "bad guy" pause, but I really don't care. I didn't get my dogs for personal protection. I got a gun for that. And THAT was not imported :-)
