Tigermouse.  Thank you Tracie for your in depth reply. You have made very clear that your loyalty remains with the German Shepherd breed and not with half hearted do gooders.  Simon.

There seem to be more interest in people who only  want to find fault with other people on sites lately, how can this great breed ever be united as one if the people who say they love this breed can not even get on together.Reading most of the topics on the dog sites the majority is there to help people with problems with their GSD if new owners start to read some of the childest statements on a lot of the sites it will never encourage new owners or breeders in the future.

There have been problems with GSD for years, yet only since the BBC programe on pedigree dogs has all this row came to a head.Where was all the people who are doing the shouting not shouting years ago when problems started to creep into this breed.

I am all for the GSD but I can not see how forming groups away from the KC will ever benifit the GSD what will happen when one of the group decide they want to change some thing that they feel should be for the GSD and the others don,t  will it again start more break away groups, when will it end I can only see it as the start of the end for the GSD as we all loved.

SpiritIntheSky is this the same Joyce Ixer who was instrumental in the non return of the League documentation, historic minute book, results of League Health surveys, amoungst other things. The same who almost single handedly caused anarchy from League members at an AGM by attempting to railroad them in her dictatorial fashion by abusing her position in refusing to acknowledge the assembled members vote? Those who dont remember that either have very short memories,  have served only a short time in the breed or have had scant involvement in breed affairs. Or do you need to change your name from Spirit,  to Pie In The Sky. Which is it?

by Jonah1 on 20 January 2010 - 13:01

Marge.   Yeh I remember all that only too well  , if ya bringing up all that lot why stop there ------ wot about dorothy cullums jaded past with the league HUH !.  lol.    Luv the pie in the sky though Marge !.

To be fair Joyce Ixer dont av nought to do with this misdemeanor with the gsd info group Marge.

Pupwalker10.  Good post, ya a bit wrong about folk not sayin nought till the BBC prog. Hundreds of letters over the years av gone to the kennel club about health conditions. The kennel club just ignored all !.  Lets be honest about it if the kennel club had done tha job right non of this arguing would be happening.

Tigermouse.   Good on ya fer standin yer ground , the breed needs more folk like you lass !.

Petowner , Missbeeb ,  Mark3.  Ya hearts n principles are in the right place. Its real good ta know thers some good folk about.

There seems to be a few misconceptions here......................I am NOT Joyce Ixer...........my name is Angie and my email is spiritinthesky2009@live.com.     So many people here are slinging a lot of mud at people who they don't know, have never met, have never spoken to.........and frankly, know nothing about!!

Mrs Joyce Ixer is over 90 yrs old...........she has written, spoken, advised on, bred, shown, trained more GSDs than the whole lot of you put together. She is very highly respected in the GSD world..........among the people that MATTER in the GSD world, that is. How anybody here on this list can disrespect her in such a way, I do not know.........

Jonah1............you speak of Mrs Dot Cullum, Mrs Chris Harvey and Margaret Nyrvana Jones in such scathing terms. Just what, exactly, have you done in the GSD world that gives you the leverage to talk about these people, in this way, with such a sneer in your tone?? For Gods Sake..............you haven't even got the bottle to strap a pair on and reveal your real name!!!!! Yet you act so high and mighty, throwing out your insults and your insinuations...............how many times have YOU. been consulted on books about the history of the GSD? Or asked to take part in a tv programme about the GSD? Or consulted by the KC? Or ran one the most successful booths at Crufts?? Well...........if you have done any of these things, or anything better, please let us know..............but we need to know your name, otherwise your comments, previous and future, will hold absolutely no credence whatsoever, if you havent got enough belief in your own statements, to state your own name, in a frank, open, honest, adult discussion.

For the record.........I have never bred, shown, trained(professionally) with any of the GSDs that I have owned.I am a pet owner. I have bought from good and bad breeders...............I talk a lot to the people who know their stuff. I learn from them. I read, or listen to the breeders who know very little, talk non-stop, earn a bloody fortune from their myriad of litters that they breed every year, but who don't run their own dogs, or couldn't recognise them in a crowd...........and I learn even more.
And when I read the crap that is written on this forum about people I respect so much, by people who know nothing...........that makes me mad enough to stand up and speak my mind..........any comments on here...........or to my email address. I can take it.

Angie.

TO WHOM THIS MAY CONCERN.    My name is Anne. I have been informed this week that I am being unfairly branded as a trouble maker by Dorothy Cullum and associates regarding the GSD info group.

I am a normal dog owner of many years ownership of the GSD breed. I enjoy obedience and agility and have always taken much interest in the breed especially in the health.  My first GSD suffered with both hip and elbow displasia hence the reason when I have a new puppy it must come from hip and elbow scored parents. When I had my last dog the elbow scheme had been in use for approximately 2 years. At that time very few breeders were using the elbow scheme. I could not find a puppy where both parents had been scored so I had to settle with just the Sire being elbow scored.  I started looking for a new puppy at the end of last year. I thought I would easily find a puppy where both parents were hip and elbow scored  .....  not so easy !.  My search led me to the breeder Chris Harvey ( Sherak ) after seeing her litter advertised on the Kennel Club website.  I contacted her by email to ask her some details. The first email I received back from her contained very little information regarding the litter ... the parents pet names which told me nothing , most of her email was telling me that she ran the GSD info group with Dorothy Cullum and that Dorothy Cullum was a championship show obedience judge, she did state the parents hip scores. I replied asking her for the parents elbow scores and if the Sire was haemophilia tested.  I was surprised at the reply I had back stating neither of the parents were elbow scored and the Sire was not haemophilia tested. I would have left it at that if it had not been for her explanation for not having the elbows and haemophilia tests done.  The explanation I was given was not only irresponsible but very incorrect in her description of how and why these tests were not needed. I was disgusted and concerned that this same nformation would be readily given to any member of the public seeking advice regarding health tests. I was lucky because I knew better, the majority of the public would not know any better so would believe what they were told from such an organisation. I did reply to Chris Harvey with my opinion and suggested the info group should seek the correct information as they are meant to be knowledgeable advisors. Chris Harvey's reply back to me was not as I would have hoped. It was obvious to me that there was no intention of anything being changed for the better. I did send the emails to Sheila Rankin, she said she would investigate it further.

Because of this I am being unfairly persecuted when it should be Chris Harvey and Dorothy Cullum being put under the microscope !.  I did not want to write on this website but I will not have my name blackened because I love the GSD breed, all I wanted was a healthy dog.

I have been told by other enthusiasts that I should put the emails on this website so everyone can see the truth. I hope this will not be neccessary. If there is anyone who is genuinly interested in the truth please PM me.

Anne.

If you read my first post on this thread i stated why some breeders do not health test the blame for this lies with the KC if they make health testing mandatory then breeders will have to health test if they want to register there stock, as far as leaving the KC is concerned if we do then i am under the impresion that it will be done under the SV system so no one will be able to change anything just for the sake of it for me i think the GSD will improve 100% as all health tests will be compulsary and all puppies born will have a better than average chance of a pain free healthy life

There are plans in place to develop a legally binding standard puppy contract that will stand the test in the courts. Breeders will have to show that they took all reasonable precautions to breed healthy dogs, i.e. by doing the necessary health tests and not breeding from dogs where the results indicate that it would be unwise to do so. Dog owners, puppy buyers etc, etc will be bound by a duty of care.

This is just the gist of it; it’s too early to define exactly what form the draft will take but if it is in the form I think it will be, they will be doing the health tests.

by petowner on 21 January 2010 - 11:01

ANNEGSD.     I can understand your feelings. Any pro GSD organisations whether voluntary or not should be promoting all the health tests possible not put people off doing them !!!!.  Very disheartening indeed.  Nightstar you are not alone. Jaymesie, Mark3. Any mandatory health tests will help our breed tremendously.
