Thanks! I really wasn't interested until recently when my company decided that it was no longer "safe" to muzzle or kennel dry miniature schnauzers. I force dry most all of my dogs anyway for a better haircut, but you already know how mini schnauzers can be about certain things they don't want done to them, like shaving paw pads, nail trimming/grinding. dematting, ear hair plucking.... LOL
Maybe when I move next month I will just look for a position at a privately owned salon...

Undercoat rake, slicker brush, and a forced air dryer works great for me.  I got a furminator - hated it, giving it to a friend who likes them but lost his.

Schnauzer's, Tell me about it.  Goofy critters.  I want to know where everyone is getting their furminators from?  I have never heard so many complaints, it's concerning.  What size furm's do you all have, are they still sharp? Do they have bent/broken teeth? Have you tried the double bladed furminator?  Are you furminating a dirty dog?

I knew you'd understand about the Schnauzers LOL...
I was surprised to about how many complaints about the Furminator... I bought my own and made the mistake of NOT locking my tool box and it was "borrowed" by another groomer and I came in the next day and it had broken and bent teeth.  Had to get a new one :-/ and they're not cheap...
I haven't tried the double bladed one, but I may get one... A groomer can never have enough crap LOL

are they still sharp?

brand new out of the package very sharp

Do they have bent/broken teeth?
nope

Have you tried the double bladed furminator?
nope

Are you furminating a dirty dog?
nope

I dabbled in grooming for a little while, specialized in show standard poodles, though of course I also did normal pet grooming as well.  I got the furminator to see what all the hype was about.  Found it wasn't as good a tool for me as a regular grooming rake.  Matter of personal preference.

I had heard about them on here, saw and bought one at a dog extravaganza at the Convention Center in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago.  First time I used it, new, it cut the hair.  I had two terriers that had to be stripped and thought it might work better on them, it was worse.  I liked hand stripping much better and so did the dogs.  I also don't mind grooming my GSD but I guess it depends on how many you have, not hard when you just have one.

Sueincc, Is it blue?  I agree with you........Personal preference.

Yes, blue.

Poorly bred Cockers & cocker mixes were by far what I hated to groom the most.  Got my worst bite from an ancient cocker.  She got the back of my hand near the knuckle area where the skin is  thin  & just started rippping back & forth........bitch.  I liked doing all the terrors, especially Scotties and Sealyhams because though they could be tough they had a ton of character and  presence.  The easiest dogs to handle were the show Standard Poodles, they were like living dolls, so compliant, and  very sweet.  What comes from being oiled & wrapped or braided or bathed, and groomed weekly and sometimes more often than that.

Gotta agree on the cockers Sue... and the ancient ones always are alll moley too with smelly ears, and venomous looking teeth to bite you with (shudder)
I cannot groom for a showring but I LOVE grooming poodles... With my nad back Standards kill me, though I have a few regulars, and toys I feel like I'm going to break LOL... I LOVE grooming the minis though!
I did one today that had an AWESOME coat, even though he was about 5 inches long and matted, I was able to use the h.v. dryer to get most of them out and still easily get a #2 (metal) guard comb through him and he was just an absolute doll, like you said!
Scotties on the other hand...I gotta give you credit for enjoying them lol... I suppose either you love terriers or don't. I don't
LOL
