Couldn't work our how to carry on typing after I added the photo!
These pups are by Neck vd Wolfen out of Mascani Giselle.
Thanks to Lynn Camden for putting my anateur snapshots into this lovely montage!
Whilst I guess my first love will always be showing, I have been bitten by the SchH bug good and hard since starting to work Mascani Ikon and I hope that the bitch I intend to keep from this litter will be "a competitor" in both fields

Remy Sch3 H.O.T. My mobility service dog in daily life. Extremely clearheaded and stable.
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/485683.html Picture is from her Sch1
Sire is 3-3 on Fanto He is also a KNVP dog and FH champion in Holland and France
This year's NW Championship.Rem had been laid off for 5 months due to major neck surgery for a foreign body caused infection and we only had 3 weeks to train. I was only able to track her 2x in preperation for the Regionals, At the regionals going into the last corner the judge later told us we were on a track for a V but she had to work the corner a bit - which she did as the rules allowed - consistently never lifting the nose- but on that one small bit of checking he dropped her back to a 90. She often free tracks for me if the going is tough and she always retrieves the article back to me and then returns to the spot she picked it from, puts her nose down and goes back to work. She was the 2nd oldest dog at the trial and the oldest who qualified ( 7.5 years of age)

So Jeff what's not to like?
PS the video starts with her doing 5 and 6. she ran all 6 blinds with only 1 small hesitation on the way to 5. She looked squarely over to the helper but then made the decision to run 5 w/o a need for a redirect.

What a cracking litter, and all credit to you for the selection of sire and dam. I am sure they are going to be fantastic and I really look forward to see how they develop. Perhaps we are looking at the start of a new future with the GSD.
I certainly know where I would be going for my next puppy :)

Thanks Abby Normal.
It's a pity that I only got one girl because I only want to keep a girl at the moment and so all my eggs are in one basket! That doesn't mean I am keeping her because I don't have any choice, I do really like her but we shall see as she is now becoming quite different to what I am used to - and I want to show and work her - she has to do both which is a tall order!
The 6 boys are all going to really lovely homes - one will be worked and shown if he is good enough and three others will be worked - all are going to companion homes. I found this mixture of show and working lines to be very popular with the public - the pups were all booked from 3 weeks old - which is important as most of my pups go to companion homes.
Fingers crossed that my girl (Libby) will be good enough to keep and if she is not that onlookers (of which I think there are a few) will accept that it is not necessarily because you can't mix show and working lines but because you have to run on a good many pups before you find one good enough to keep!

Hi Shirley
A friend of mine is in exactly the same situation. 5 boys 1 girl and she wants to keep back a girl. Isn't it always the way.
I think show/working line mix is attaining a structure that the public find more natural and appealing, as I have to admit I do myself (hence the remark about where I am coming for my next puppy).
You have two fabulous parents there, I bet this whole litter will be excellent.
I am sure the majority will understand if Libby doesn't turn out to be exactly what you are looking for this time around, you would be extraordinarily lucky if she was, though I would guess it is inevitable that some will take the view that it's the fault of show/working mix, but deep down we all know better than that. Sounds like you have some great homes lined up for them. I am sure that we are going to see show/working line do very well in years to come. Hope that Libby does work out for you, but if she doesn't someone will be very lucky to get her.

I will say that you have more determination than 90% of the people I have trained with. You are pointing to one example, and really at that level, you can see the dog has average drive, and that you and your team have done a fine job with the dog.
The funny thing is how no one get that you show me one example of a dog that works, and I can show you hundreds of show line shitters.
I have said it before, it is unnerving how selfish people are by breeding shit to something decent. Average to average because it is estheticly pleasing. Bunch of selfish whores. You won't admit that the showlines are shit, but continue to do stupid shit like breed to working lines. I point out that the dogs do not have what it takes to be any good, but that is OK, because damm the breed, I want what I want.

Will this now become a trend of breeding S/L to W/L because it is becoming very popular with the Public, it's scary as we already have kennels full of dogs the the public can't control nor can live with because they have too much drive and too much brain to handle
by Ibrahim on 07 October 2010 - 09:10
I thought crossing a work with show would produce more balanced dogs in regards to drives.

IMO it isn't really about s/l and w/l when you choose which animals to breed from and together - it's about carefully choosing complimentary animals.
If you breed from two mediocre animals from either side you are unlikely to get excellence - if you use an excellent animal with a poor animal you are unlikely to produce excellence.
If you start with two very good animals and then look at what you would like to improve on your own animal (in my case prey drive) and what you would not accept to bring in to your lines (in my case very high drive "manic" character or conformation that is too far removed from my interpretation of the standard) and then make sure that all of the health considerations are met you might just be lucky and produce another very good animal that will produce excellence or you might be miraculously lucky and produce excellence first time!
If we both stay in our own camps we will move further towards two breeds and will have no chance of eliminating exaggeration on both sides.

Exactly, I think what is hoped for is a dog which is excellent conformationally (less overangulation), with improved working ability, but without excessive drive. Exactly as you describe in one word - balance.
