Yeah. Well, besides her hips, she's in excellent health with good teeth, ears, eyes, skin, and fur. We've kept her weight to where it should be (nice waist with no ribs showing but able to be felt). She's yet to get fleas. Despite bombing the living room with a few farts
, her gut health is good and she hasn't had worms (though we're still deworming her with the normal schedule) since we first got her. Her training has gotten so much better and she's not nearly as reactive to other dogs. She'll play tug of war and will only stop when we decide that the game is over. She barks at the front door when she thinks there's a stranger outside. She pays a lot of attention to us and likes to be with us all the time, though she doesn't seem to mind too much at having alone time. She loves her new bed that we put in her favorite spot. She'll even walk into her kennel at night when we tell her it's time for bed, without us having to goad her into it.

And her hips may very well be just fine too. I wish vets would just tell dog owners the truth - that the only way to know the hip conformation is an xray rather than presenting them with all sorts of scenarios that "might be". Now you will be worrying about that until you know the results of her xrays. Another possibility is a condition in young fast growing breeds called panosteitis. Very common in the breed and causes temporary lameness. Did your vet mention that?

Uschi,
You might be able to just have the vet send you the Xrays via email if they are digitized, for posting on here, any way. That's what my vet was able to do for me when my dog broke its toe. Hope it all works out well for Shelby. We can all tell how devoted
you are to your girl. (Your training update sounds great!)

Talk to your vet about taking the x-rays without anesthesia or a local anesthesia. Not only does it save some costs but it reduces the chance of having long term problems from being put under. These are only a preliminary set. No need to take any additional risk. If your vet was able to manipulate her and she didn't resist or squirm, your vet can probably get a decent shot without anesthesia. Ask and see what you get.

Hi Blister very interesting what you posted. I think it is what in spanish we call it 'renguera de los cahorros' (puppies limping) my dog had this problem several times when he was still growing. My vet prescribed calcium for him. Fortunately he has not that problem any more.

I guess I can ask the vet about not using anesthesia. Perhaps my husband and I can practice getting her calm and moving her into that position?
As a side note, I was having her walking sideways, and I noticed a very audible click almost every time she stepped. Does that mean anything?

UschiRun..........didnt u say that the dam of Shelby was a Nikonis bitch?.....Experienced n well respected gsd kennel in the UK.If i,m right then i,d like to point out to others reading this thread that all ancestors behind the unscored dam,WILL be scored either under the UK KC/BVA scheme or SV scheme.Carole Spelman RHEINMEISTER GSDS UK.

Yes, Nikonis Twiggi. And I do agree that Nikonis is experience and well respected. Nikonis also pops up on Shelby's paternal side, with Nikonis Colin being Shelby's paternal grandfather. I also didn't mean this to possibly come across as slander against them or their dogs.
And it's quite possible that Echo has great hips- since I've yet to been told the results. But what I was trying to say about me not being surprised had nothing to do with Echo- she was a lovely dog who comes from a great line. My reference was more about the people involved- in that IF there were something wrong, I would expect to get the same reactions out of Echo's current owner that I am now. But this doesn't reflect, in my opinion, on Echo or the Nikonis Kennel. It reflects on Echo's owner.

Uschi may very well have excellent hip conformation. All that's happening now is speculation.
