the name doesn't make the dog......the dog makes the name!!! my personal preferance is to give the dog a rather mild name, something that doesn't imply weapons of psycotic conditions......i prefer two sylable names for males, with maybe a hard "O" at the end...get their attention a bit better when they go thru that goofy adolence stage...certain names can implicate violence or aggression to the general public...don't need any of that in this day and age, especially as the current idea is to get people to accept the GSD into everyday society, and what if"CHAOS,BANSHEE OR MAKO" turns into a "sofa snoozing lap dog...i never liked those names that have too much(mythical) meaning attached to them...name him "ERNIE" or "LARRY" train him as best you can.....if he wins or shows well at a regional or national event..his name will be on the spectators lips....but if "RAGE,KILLER,PANZER,RAPTOR runs of the field...well..you get the idea.....don't let your ego name your pup!!!!!!!

I wish that I could help but I am having the same problem as you are right now. We just had a litter of GSD puppies and I am keeping one and can't think of a name either. So I wish you the best of luck and congats. on getting a GSD they are the best ever that is what I think. Good luck

I definitely agree with vom ost see on this one (though I personally wouldn't go with ernie or larry..). However, I do have a guideline, myself. All of the pups I have do end up getting a Japanese name (my heart dog's name was Japan). Most are two syllable, however, my recent addition is one syllable. And ones prior to Japan were one syllable as well (Tweed, Kei, Nals) - it was just easier to call the dog swiftly if I needed to. For a dark sable like him I'd probably go with something like Junko. It's not 'badass' per se, but it's concise.

We (collectively -_-) like the name "Rifle" best after seeing him (and on that note, he ended up being a lot darker than I thought). Though Swagger would SO FIT his personality. He came home friday and is a little brat. Very calm, self confident, struts around with that wide chest and tail up and doesn't even flinch with gunfire (the last shot we even had him close to the guy shooting as you see in the pic, though only once because we didn't want to damage his ears). I thank God for him; he's so perfect. Loves chasing the rag. He's still needs a lot of encouragement about some of the agility stuff but he'll get over that soon. My only downfall with him is that he doesn't always go toward things he is unsure of (which isn't much, thankfully). Sometimes he just looks at it, backs up a step or two, stares, then trots off to find something to gnaw on. But that's ok.
I went out to clean the kennels the first day and when I came back in, he growled at me with tail and head up then barked before he recognised who I was. 7 weeks! I've been praying for a little guy like him for so long. I can't wait to see how he turns out. :]
