Thanks sunsilver. Yes, I was thinking that he was probably having cramps too. His butt and tail look normal and he pooped last night and it was good. Normal consistency , orange color, like the pumpkin. He also did the same this morning, so I will take it to the vet. He didn't seem distressed those two times, so I guess he felt better. He had crazy puppy zoomies last night and I was just standing there watching him run from the kitchen to the living room and onto the sofa looking at me with those insane puppy eyes. What kind of treats do you guys recommend for this puppy when he is feeling better? I don't want to give him anything that might harm him. He likes string cheese, and hot dogs, but I don't know if those things are really good for him. He weighs 64pounds last time we checked at the vet, which was about 2 weeks ago. Is that a good weight for him at 6 months? Anyway, thanks for all your help and I will keep you all posted as to how he is doing.

I was not going to post, but this persons problem prompted me to do so, No one has spoken of a Bacterial infection in this Puppy, which is fairly common in Pups if they pick up something they should not and eat it, nothing to do with worms etc
Firstly take your Dog and a fresh Stools sample no matter how runny it is sealed of course to a new Vet ask them to send it to the Lab to be tested,
The Vet will check your Pup over and you tell them exactly how you have fed it and on what,
Now for yourself you SHOULD have done this already, Look at the Gums of the Puppy, if they are inflamed and swollen then he has a problem.
If they are to Pale he has a problem they should be a nice healthy looking colour.
Next Put your hands on the Loins of the Dog and bring your hands to the rear just in front of the Hips if you can feel any swelling and if it feels soft and puffy then your Dog will have an infection of the Gut that is very certain and you will need to get the vet to sort that out not on your own doing that is important.
ONE more test very important A young Puppy has a certain amount of loose skin across the back give the skin a Pinch LIFT' at the back end of the Pup if the Skin goes back fast , right away okay if it does not go back by the time you say 1 -2 then you have a problem and the Pup is becoming dehydrated and that is sure trouble
Your Vet should do all this but everyone should do these things if a Puppy is out of Sorts meaning the above tests yourself

From experience I find that probiotics are not helpful with diarrhea but can worsen it.
I'll give it when there is a lot of bone in the food or my dog is constipated.
Did you consider leaving it away?
I agree with Sunsilver rice (and chicken) is good for diarrhea patients. I'd stay away from the packaged kibble. If you have access to raw green tripe, you might want to give it a try. You can also mix tripe with rice. No brown rice though as the husks are hard to digest.
Hope your dog will recovery very soon!

Hey, hope things are getting better for your puppy. Unfortunately most vets aren't familiar with raw diets, so that's where lots of research on your part comes in, but I have to say my experience has been very favorable with the dehydrated raw. My GSD/Mal mix since changing has decreased the size and frequency of her stools and they are firmer. I am now only feeding twice daily instead of three times a day and she doesn't act like she is always starving. Cleaning the yard is much easier too :) I wish you luck.

Hi everyone,
Well, Ryder has been much better these last couple of days. Nice firm poop. No poop test result yet but I am thinking that it will again be negative. If it was before, then testing it while he is on Flagyl should probably be useless. Anyway, I think it was Steve that suggested that I check gums and abdomen as well as skin turgor. I had already been doing those things and yes, everything is normal. He looks great actually and I am hoping that this will be it for the stomache issue, although I have read others experiences and it kind of makes me nervous. I am going to eventually try the dehydrated food. Honest kitchen, keen, I think that is the one I should try. What do you guys think of Keen. Should I start that one or another? Now, do I add cooked meat or does it need to be raw or is the food just good on it's own? Anyway, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Nothing in the poop sample. He seems ok, but let's see what happens when he stops taking the medicine. If he starts having problems again I am taking him somewhere else and having other tests done.
For now, he is pooping fine and he is eating and playing and looking handsome as ever.

I was wondering if he was still on the meds. As by your last post Yes? I would be on the look out for pancreatic insufficiancy. I had two puppies with it even though I was told that it was near impossible at a young age to show up. Hopefully that isn't it and your puppy is on his way to good health.
I disagree with Sunsilver however that raw is a fad. Ive been feeding raw for 13 years far past any fad because of the two pups who had EPI. I was a devout kibble feeder before. I care little that dogs are not wolves etc etc. I care that my dogs can maintain weight, keep their teeth clean on their own (and I dont feed alot of bones my meat is ground) and their overall health is good. Really what did people feed their dogs before bagged kibble came out? If it was so good then why are cancer rates up and dogs are more unhealthy than ever.

You can supplement with cooked or uncooked, just don't feed cooked bones ever. Which product of the Honest Kitchen depends on your dogs age and activity level and the Leerburg website does an excellent job explaining the differences. I would suggest starting with ground turkey (after it gets back on the market after the bacteria scare, which by the way doesn't affect dogs like humans) or hamburger and move into chicken legs/thighs and other meats. It's up to you. Just feeding the dehydrated raw by itself should be enough for complete nutrition. I am going to start supplementing with the salmon oil and vitamin E, like suggested in their video. I also got a book called "Raw Dog Food, Make it Easy For You and Your Dog" by Carina Beth MacDonald. It's a very short book and very simple and takes all the anxiety out of freeding raw.
I love the dehydrated raw, it's easy and my dogs think they are getting something great every time they get fed. I just mix up what I need and wait 10 min. I think the cost isnt even that bad after you add up all the kibble and vet bills you will be eliminating. Their health is amazing and energy level is through the roof (sometimes not such a great thing:)
I'm so happy your pup is doing better and good luck with the feeding. I think you will love it.

I am hoping too that it is not EPI. I read about it and it scared me to death. Anyway, yes he is still on the meds until Wednesday morning. Then I guess I will see what happens, because the last time he finished the meds, the diarrhea started again just a couple of days after that. I do want to start the dehydrated raw, but I will see how he is doing first. I guess I should wait a few days. Thank you all for your info and your suggestions, I really appreciate everything. I will keep you posted.
