As i said if you and others on here want to see Dysplastic Hips then look on the Web there's enough for anyone to see,
This Lady has had her hopes dashed and she does not need reminding of it by seeing her Dogs Joints x-rays on this Forum do you not get that, the Lady may be okay with showing them but as sure as hell i would not and i think somehow she will feel the same.
However there is no more to be said i hope the dog goes on okay in later life no reason why it should not do so, good luck to Darla and her Dog

I have a 3 yr old spayed female with HD. She is doing great. We give her ester C supplements along with glusosamine/chondroitin supplements every day. She is only slightly stiff sometimes on cold, wet winter days. On those days, she stays indoors and my vet said she can take aspirin (5 -10 mg for every pound of body weight every 12 hours). She runs and plays normally, but we don't let her jump. She only weighs 65 pounds (keeping the weight down helps). We enjoy her immensely and she is the smartest of our 3 gsds. Hope your dog does well---enjoy her!

I do want to remind that Dysplasia is not a death sentence, I've seen many many dogs who x-rayed as dysplastic go on to live long normal lives and never even show lameness. Had one black female 30 years ago with basically no hip sockets, nor heads on the femur but she could jump straight up and over a 6' fence with no problem. (no she was never bred). Wishing the best to you and your sweet gal for a great future, though not the one you'd hoped for.

Darla:
Does your dog show outwards signs of pain or immobility? I,ve seen dogs labeled Dysplastic that never show any symptoms or pain. If you were planning on working her you still can your only venue restricted would be breeding.
What does your vet think of the xrays ? is he okay with there findings or not of agreement?.
Steve:
The 2nd opinion issue can pop up when there are issues with the xray clarity or position issues. There are also 2 different types of hip test,s here in the USA OFA and PennHipp. Both look at the hip structure in a different text. OFA judges hip joint structure only. PennHipp measures hip joint laxity based on it,s findings it ranks the dog in the database in percentile units. Penn Hipp is based on a written set of rules and clarifications so there is little room for personnel interpretation where OFA gives you the opinion of 3 board certified Ortho vets(supposedly).
OFA lists on there web site that 38 percent of all xrays with a failing rating are due to improper position or xrays being unclear for specific evaluation. It is also much easier to squ the findings and ratings in OFA,say a breeder has several dogs out of a litter Ofa,d and only say 2 out of 5 have good sound hip structre the owner can simply choose to not send in the bad xrays and the findings for the breeding are inaccuarte for that breeding pair. In Penn HIpp each Vet is supplied with a series of #,rd films each film MUST be returned to Penn Hipp and entered into there database for a more realistic set of data. The Vets that do Penn Hipp must also go thru a certifing class to assure they are all doing the procedure correctly before there allowed to do the procedure.
Penn Hipp isn,t accepted like OFA I believe because it,s a better evaluation of the possible development of a dysplastic animal. and It,s cost,s are more expensive.
I can atest to the fact that not all OFA evaluations are correct so a 2nd opinion especially if your vet questions the rating also.
I also get my dogs that I want to breed both OFA and Penn Hipp tested.

she was sedated.
she didnt really start showing that much until after the xrays were taken and the vet pointed out she was worried... i didnt know if i was being overly observant/worrying, or if she was indeed showing signs. but she has gotten worse over the apst month or so. she hops when she runs, and now is taking a little longer to get up... only slightly... but noticable.
this is her dam; http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=627620
and her sire; http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=627626
I have tried to contact the breeder i got her from when she was about 6 months old becasue i got the picture of her parents wet and i wanted another copy... but i never got an answer. every time i tried to get in contact i hit a wall.
I know there is another person who has a pup that is 6 months younger than my girl (yes, raised some flags for me too), who started showing signs of HD around 6mo.
there is one person i know owns my girls brother, but i havent gotten in contact with them about their male and if he has been tested yet.
