Well put Nellie.  Yes I enjoy hugging my dogs and I love them even when they are on my last nerve.  But everyday I think about the dogs that have to live in less than stellar conditions to help keep us free.  They didn't go down to the recruiting office and sign up.  They were chosen for their work ethics and they do it for their love of master and work.  And I care about every soldier serving and putting their life on the line for what they believe in.  This is personal to me for my daughter is in the Army and she has done 2 tours.  Everyday I see her post something silly on Facebook I thank God that she is OK.  So Hank when you say you could care less about some human being you don't even know, that's kind of like spitting in some people's faces......................

My team mates and I worked 911 with our K-9 partners at the WTC. We had hoped to locate those trapped under the rubble, instead, we assisted in locating remians that would bring closure to many families. Whether or not you believe our dogs became ill after working at ground zero is a mute point. I lost my dog  and as hard as that was... I am proud of the service she  (and all my team mates performed) assisting during that difficult time.  Each time an urban search and rescue team responds we put ourselves and K-9 in a potentially dangerous situation.(Japan, Hattii, tornados etc.)
Would I do it again? In a heart beat, yes I miss my partner but am proud to serve  my country.
Btw, my dogs sleep in the house, eat by my side and are  my family
