Very sporty I must say....AWESOME!  I love it when the basket is carried off the field....classic.

Jeff, I'm talking about the guard where the dog is centered between the legs. That is vulnerable. And trust me, my pup bit me in the sack 2 days ago. I was just happy he didn't hit more!!! Its just not practical to have a dog guard like that where a suspect can walk and pull a knife out and go to town without the dog's realization. Great sport and like I said, there are things I hate in all of them. But they are fun.

So, if we are REALLY talking "street" would you not search a bad guy before you took him for a walk ? I would think you would want to relieve him of these things. Plus, getting bit in the suit in the inner thigh sucks. How ballsy do you think bad guys really are ?

Also, there is little that goes on that the dog does not pay attention to. They do not have to look at you to realize that you have moved. You know, that hearing that can hear a heart beat 12 feet away through a wall ???

Jeff, you are correct. You would cuff the guy and walk him out after clearing him. Like I said, it is sport. I just hate seeing that guard. Means nothing against the dog. Its what we've taught.

Here is Esko's father.

Though it is a sport but it shows the quality of the dog as well as the quality of training and control over the dog. I don't aim to start anything off topic but if I followed well previous prey/defense topics I see the dog was in prey all the time just as if it is a game for him and he is playing his role, I saw no stress forced on the dog nor defense reaction from the dog, pardone me if what I said is total ignorance.

You can start a thread and call it this :

Is a dog that goes into defense all the time, every exercise really the dog you want ?

Or, you could start a thread called :

Does a dog bite hurt less in prey than in defense ?

Or, you could start a thread called :

How many times does a dog have to see something before he is not afraid of it ?

I really wish you luck moving away from where ever you are so that you can get to see some dogs working and learn more first hand. This shit is difficult to get from the internet, with all the bickering that people do... me included.

Ibrahim,

Your observations about the dog are correct, but the training is or can be stressful for a dog at this level especially during the learning process. The performance on the field shows just how solid this dog's character is and how well he's been handled.

by Ibrahim on 24 December 2010 - 23:12

 Felloffher,

Thanks, I think I understood you, so during the training early stages  there is stress on the dog but once he's fully trained it becomes easier and smoother performed by the dog. Yes the dog seems calm, knows what is expected from him and he performs his duties confidently and cheerfully, he even looked proud of himself and liked the praise he got. Thanks.

Ibrahim
