Culling takes place in all manner of responsible animal breeding progs. Farmers (as one example) cull as a regular matter of course.

of course im special,we're all special, did ur momma never tell you that ur special?p'raps thats why u feel the need to be so hostile?dont worry im sure she luved ya awee bit.or maybe you just loved her?
sure kill them all if you want, who gives a fuck.thats your choice, wudnt be mine but then i believe in everything bein given a chance, but then were two different kinda people,i personally never had to fuck a buddy to get him to take a pup at a reduced price, but if thats how you sell 'em,fair play to ya!
as for calling people liars?never mentioned the word, only spoke the truth.they dont cull because its best for the breed, they cull because its best for them,so no-one finds out what their dogs have or potentially have?"nah, never had a dwarf, never had a dysplastic...,never had a this...,never had a that.....",you fill in the blanks, for all the people out there, breeding their perfect dogs.beats me where all these diseases are coming from, what with ya all breeding your genetically perfect stock
.
ps i wudnt be so quick to dis the pet owners, after all if they didnt buy your shit, who else wud?
to lidia
responsible breeding programs?surely if it was a responsible breeding program you wouldnt be breeding carriers of a known defect to other carriers? its not just the visibly affected ones that are carrying the genes you know(or maybe YOU dont know)its because of this policy of culling and saying nothing that so many dogs are carriers and nobody knows, just who's dog,is carrying what.
and ps.... Farming is the production of food, not the breeding of a companion, and as a farmer myself, you dont cull unless its no longer profitable to maintain the animal!and you defo wudnt breed a known faulty animal!!!didnt know the breeding of dogs was for profit, unless of course you're talking about puppy farming, then thats a whole different ball game.

First of all to the original poster...... I do feel badfor you for having gotten an unhealthy puppy to start with. This can happen to any breeder no matter how much research they do and how hard they try to breed perfectly healthy puppies. I had one a friend who had a dwarf GSD in one of her litters. The friend ended up keeping the puppy (Alexa) and her brother. Alexa lived to be 10 years old and yes, she did have health issues ie: heart condition, coat problems etc. However, she certainly brought a lot of joy into her owner's lives. They knew she was a very special little girl and took this into consideration when they opted not to euthanize her. My friend, btw, was a veterinarian who knew what she could be in for.
The breeder should have known this pup had a problem and informed you before you bought Eddie. I assume you live in a state where health certificates are not mandatory for a pup to be sold. Has the breeder offered you a refund, help with vet bills or another puppy? He/she should. It is the only ethical thing to do. You have undertaken quite a task here with keeping Eddie and maintaining his health as best you can. I wish you only the best with this situation.
As for the posts on culling.......that is a breeder's right and decision. I can understand it when you have a pup with serious health issues however..........could I personally do it? I hope I am never faced with that decision. I know in my head what the right thing to do is but the heart tells a different story.
Again, best of luck with Eddie and I hope you keep us posted as to his progress. And yes......he is a special dog & you are a special person for caring for him, regardless of what anyone else's opinion is in the matter.

I personally don't like the idea at all. However, why leave the gene around at all ?
Anytime you want to try your hand at talking to my mother like that, feel free. See how that goes for you.
Speaking of being against culling, how did those shitters in your avatar stay alive. They look like you got them from a pet shop or the amish.

as for drowning pups, ive been drowning them for years.tried to drown those three, but they crawled out of the bag and an amish found them an gave them back to me.funny old world isnt it?who would have guessed it?
and by the way im not against culling something unviable, but ,i am against culling something that could be viable,it may never be the best in the world, but if it survives,it deserves a chance..after all...one day of life is better than a thousand years of death.
and jessiejames, get a grip, read the posts.i didnt dis his momma, the original quote was taken out of context, guess jeff aint too sharp on his freudian theories(or you either!)
you just gotta admire someone who speaks whats really on their mind?doncha!
