This thread is crazy....This may be more YOUR fault that you got the wrong dog. So how about lets quit bashing this poor dog!!! You obviously didnt do your homework when you picked your pup. By the ridiculous comments you are making, it seems to me that you couldnt handle a high drive dog at all...

You say she doesnt PULL on the lead. She only walks beside you! Okkkkk.... SO youre just gonna dump her. Last time I checked we train for our dogs to walk beside us!

You say she is too small...She may be too skinny. Pictures would help! Height and Weight should not matter as long as she is within the standard.

You should get rid of that dump it and try another attitude....thats not how it works (should work) in this buisness!

Do you homework before you buy...If your not able to see the dog, get all the information you need about the dog. Get videos,pictures,weight/height, temperment evaluation. Most importantly make sure youre dealing with a repuatable breeder who KNOWS his dogs, and he will MAKE SURE you get what you are looking for.

I completely agree with you kelly. I'm wondering why didn't you get with the breeder and figure out what you were looking for in a dog and try to match that up with what you needed/wanted. My pup is 5 months old and has good drives. Guess what? He happens to like walking beside me and making frequent eye contact while on the lead. That didn't bother me, in fact I was pleasantly surprised. But he has crazy energy and prey drive. And I agree, pics would help ALOT. I mean, I could see the problem you had done your homework and you had CLEAR goals (such as titling this dog) for this dog laid out and you feel like the breeder deceived you but it doesn't sound like you are complaining to the breeder (probably because you can't because you didn't tell the breeder specifics in which case you don't have anyone to blame but yourself IF this dog is not up to your standards) you are just complaining about the pup that you haven't even given a chance.

Well, before we all up and tar & feather the OP, let's consider a few inferences:

He bought hisdog from a breeder.
The dog took 7 days in transit.  (That alone tells me that the breeder is either a BYB, or doesn't care about his pups.)
The dog is new to him and his surroundings.

That being said, the dog may not be so much laid back, just overwhelmed with so much change.  If the puppy walks next to you, it may be more a function of sound foundation training than of any lack of drive.

IMPO, the OP needs to do more play with the pup to foster more prey drive and help her claim her new space.

I'm almost sure that if the OP got a true working lines pup of regional competition potential, he'd be complaining about the little Manson family psycho he got...

I think you're right charlie! lol I PM the OP and told him that his pup was probably having jet lag. I also asked where the OP got his pup from. Hope you don't mind OP but I'll share the link he sent me.

I was thinking it might be training. Especially since this is an older pup. :)

Thanks. I really thank all of your replies, it really helped alot. I have to admit that I was lack on research, I call 5 kennels and still wanted to get a show line for protection work (my bad), I was not going to competite Schh, but I was told a showline can also do good protection work. The reason dog was traveled 7 days is because it's hot in Houston, most of the airline will not ship dog to Houston at this season, the breeder send her to me via his driver friend but somehow the dispatch re-route him after he get the puppy. I bought squakers and many other toys for the puppy and she is with me all the time (I brought her to work every day), her prey drive just didn't show yet. She is a sweet heart I must say, but everyone has their use for their dog. I'm working at a big warehouse by myself every night loacted at south east outside of loop Houston, we have been stolen few times and one day a guy even broke in with a knife (we are scrap metal buyer and sometimes we keep cash in the office). That's why I wanted to have a protection dog.
The breeder was very helpful and told me she is higher drive than other puppy in the litter, I just need more help to build her. I was gonna buy a trained protection dog but most of the trainer will only sell those dog to experienced handler and I was afraid not be able to handle them too, that's why I bought an older puppy and hope I can train her.
I spend few thousand on the puppy and willing to put more to tain her, so please instead blame me (I'll take the blame if you must), please help.
Thank you MKWELLBORN for the tips you gave me, it helped.

Hi Simon, some people get shocked when someone actually buys a working breed to work.

She is a lovely pup, but  it's hard to say over the internet if she has what it takes.  If she is going to show defense she should do it by a yr old IMO.  Both of mine alerted and became wary of strangers by around 8 months.  All you really need is a deterrent after all.

BTW, it isn't really your fault if you told the breeder what you wanted.  He should know what he is producing.  Did you see the parents? or are you just going by his word?

I agree with those that said give her some time to see how she progresses.  If you know someone close who can evaluate her for you, such as a trainer at a schutzhund club that would be a good idea.  My trainer said some of his best PP dogs are showline, so they are out there.

However, if she doesn't have it, there is no sin in rehoming her and getting another pup more suited to what you need.  Or if you really like her, keep her and add another to your family!

All the best!

I told the breeder I wanted a protection dog with show quality, I don't have chance to see her since she was from NY.
The Sire is V 1 Joker vom Eichenplatz, Ed A1 and Dam is V 1, SchH 2, KKL1 PARIS VOM FRANKENGOLD.
I guess I'll wait a little longer to see if she can be the one. But if there's any tip or idea how to improve her prey drive please let me know.
Talk about she always walk on my side, the trues is most of the time she only follows me instaed walk on the side, and after walk 50ft she wants to go to other's house, I ask her back (some times have to pull her back), walked 10ft she wants to go to next house. She doesn't like to go outside, she is not like other dogs really excited to go for a walk, she wants to stay at home....

How long have you had her exactly, a week, less, more?

She maybe just doesn't  feel at home yet.  More sensitive pups take longer to bond to you and feel at home enough to want to play with you.

She really is a pretty girl.

As Red Sable said, your puppy may need a bit more time and patience to feel secure in her new surroundings.  Try to bond with her without being too pushy and allow her time to settle into a stable home.  Hopefully she will show more of her personality when she is bonded with you.

Don't be too hasty to write her off as lazy.  She may not be, and given time and proper play and bonding she may be fine.
