Dear Members
At an E.C. meeting held on the 31st January 2010 the recent request for an undertaking by The Kennel Club was discussed.
The E.C. decided to discuss, evaluate and vote on the conditions as guidance to their members.
The E.C. also decided that the best way to collate feedback was through the 46 branches, the E.C will therefore be asking all branch secretaries to discuss this Kennel Club undertaking and vote with the majority decision of their members.
The collated decision from our branches will determine whether we endorse the Kennel Club undertaking or not. We would therefore strongly ask all our members to give feedback to the E.C. via your branch secretary.
On reading this my impression is that 1 club has 1 vote (para 3), BAGSD EC must make it clear if this is the case.
IMO it would be much more democratic for the individual clubs to advise of the number of their members that voted for yes (sign) or NO (dont sign), thereby giving one member one vote

I have asked that he will put this in writing to us, considering the time it has taken to get this fantastic decision
I have also asked how the votes that come in will be counted, and by whom and I have suggested at the very least that to be seen to be correctly handled..... John Ward who is a very well respected member of our breed community, an an other member of the EC should take the count
BAGSD have been slow. They must now be very aware that they have convinced us all that it was going to be a closed shop - and they now need to be completely transparent about the vote count. I will update when I have finished my conversation, as unfortunately I had to take an urgent call from my mobile whilst we were talking on this very vital and important subject.

I interpret this as one vote per member. Hoorah!
I now personally hope the "no's" will be in the majority.

Think about it. I personally want the vote to go against signing. I know how many members I have. If I send in the number of votes to correspond with the number of members all in the way I want them to go - who is to check up on me.
I am also sure there are club committees that feel that it is right to sign the KC letter, and equally, if just numbers of votes are going to be collated - they could do the same.
It has to be done more accurately than that. It sounded like we could all relax and democracy would prevail when I got the telephone call from the Chairman today, and you subsequently got a letter from Doreen, but if its just going to be the Secs of each club that will send in numbers - out of the window goes the credability again. Why for goodness sake is it so complicated.
I am told there will be a statement on the BAGSD website by tonight or tomorrow at the latest. To go to the trouble of putting a statement on there, would it have been difficult to hyperlink Doreens email address and them save and print. No one can argue with the validity of the vote, and also, people without a GSD would probably chose not to become involved, and rightly so. Oh Hum. Mo

New on the BAGSD website - paragraph 3 has been amended to read as below
The E.C. will instigate a yes or no vote from members through their branch secretary. All members names will be recorded with their vote and this will be collated by the General Secretary and counted by an independent person.
Who can be trusted as the independent person ?
