i have  a dog that has had pano, he started at 8 months and has been off and on for awhile.
the last few months has been good as i use ester c 1000mg and it works, after about a week they will be pain free.
he is almost 2 years and i will keep him on it for close to 3 years as they can have it this long.
i even had him on low protien and that did not help.
Ester C works well 1 tab. a day.
try it what do you have to lose.

Vom,
Sorry, I haven't been on here for awhile. Yes I cut His food back because he was growing fast and was getting heavy, he was still fed well but didn't want him to carry the x-tra weight. I had him checked by the vet and he also had a hair line fracture of one of the front legs and didn't want that to get worse.
Update on his littermate, she is now 27 months and has her second bout of Pano, left front leg, then right rear leg for the past 2-3 weeks, she is now getting better but still favors rear leg a little. She of course isn't growing anymore and isn't any heavier than a few months ago, so Growing fast, may not play as big a roll as I thought. Maybe Genetics plays more.
She loves playing ball and would still do that even limping, so she had to stay confined more than she or I liked, but it was for the best. It is just weird that she had a light bout at 8 months, then nothing until 27 months. So it could act up again. This time she had also slowed her eating considerably for about 4-5 days, now she is eating fine again.
I spoke to a lady a couple days ago that said her Vet told her the Pano dog actually needed MORE protein and not less, but don't know why they need more protein.

Bea, How does Ester-c work for the pain? I know pano is an inflammation of the bone and even sometimes causes thickening of the bone, but would like to know more about the ester-c as I do keep that on hand.

Mirasmom,  I LOVE those pictures of Rolli, He is so handsom. Good job!!!

i think Ester C helps to support bone heath and i will tell you i have been dealing with Pano on my male since  8 months and he would get it every 3 weeks to 2 months. he is almost 2 now.
and was  going off and on with  the Ester C , his last time was very bad so now i just give him one tab every day and now he has had no problems in the last 3 months.
i plan to keep him on it till 3 years to be sure he is over this.
i did have him on lower protien under 25%.

what ever it does it works and i am willing to try what works instead of giving the vet my money.
its cheap, as a bottle last 2 months and cost me only $10, you cant beat that.
i would say try it for a few weeks and see how she goes. what do you have to loss.
i use the 1000 mg. 1 tab a day.
and with in a few weeks it was gone.
and my boy was in pain, he got it in his two front feet.

and now he will be going for SCH training so i will keep him on this the whole time.

i am sure other people may know more about the vit. c /calcium (esterC).

anyone........................

i hope i have helped

Rollie's pano is all gone!!,

Acouple of weeks ago I went to the vets and got x-rays of both front legs & elbows and they looked fine, no fractures, so he just stopped lipping acouple of days ago, he looks so happy!

I was feeding him adult Fromm dog food, and he still got growing pains..

He's a pic of him last week when he still was favoring his right front leg...
still a great picture!

Thank you, that is helpful on the Vitamin C and I will start giving it to her tomorrow. I also take it, so I always try to keep it handy. and I know what you mean about keeping money in your own pocket instead of all to the Vet. Geeze--that can get expensive fast, even just for little things. I'll have to check my bag and see what percent protein she is on, I am sure it is less than 25% though.

And somebody is showing Rollie off!  I love seeing his pictures. I think he is beautiful and I am partial to bi-blacks and black/tans anyway. Another good photo. and I am so happy that his pano has finally let up too. That is some aweful stuff I think. I would be crying alot if I had to go through it I'm sure.
