DebiSue, that's funny! I can only imagine how serious a K-9 would be taken with a "pretty" name! LOL My husband had thought about calling him Magnum but we both finally agreed on Xander.
Jenni78, your Xander is a very handsome boy. I hope that my Xander turns out to be just as handsome. Less than a week before he comes home. I can't wait to get him home and start making him part of our family.
Carole, I like the idea of having a German name. A lot of people don't even know what Xander means so if nothing else, it sounds cool and is a nice conversation starter.

I believe monosyllabic names to the best as they make a concise noise maybe even a bit like a bark that a dog can readily relate to.
Know what language you are going to train your dog in and make sure the name you pick does not sound like one of the commands- for ex. you train in english and you name your dog Clay which would get confused with the command "stay".

I am excited for you!
I am picky about names and always end up changing my mind a dozen times before I decide on one. I actually know of a few dogs named after guns: Glock, Double Ought Buck, 357, Pistol, Browning, 9 Milli, and a Double Barrel
I like pretty simple names but nothing to weird or hard to pronounce....
Good Luck with Xander. I think it's a nice name.

We'll be picking up our boy, Xander, in about 12 hours. I'm at the point now where I probably won't sleep much tonight. My baby (she's 16 months) keeps walking around saying "puppy, puppy, puppy"....but it's more like pu---peeeeeee. LOL
Thanks Stacy! We had such a hard time coming up with a name. We really didn't want an ordinary name but we also didn't want something that we would have to spell for everyone either. We wanted something german, just because, and we wanted the name to mean something. Our second choice was Magnum (but it wasn't german...just because my husband thought if he turned out to be his K-9 he would be his "second weapon" lol). Someone mentioned taking the first letter of my name, my husband's name, and my daughter's name and putting them together but our letters are: t, r, and a. So that would either be Art, Tar, or Rat. We didn't find any of those too fitting. HaHa.
Crhuerta, that is cute. I wonder what my daughter will end up calling "Xander". LOL
Freemont, good point! That would be so confusing! I don't think Xander sounds like any of the english commands. Plus, my other dog does mostly hand signals so I plan on using those mostly for Xander as well.
We got word from the breeder today that Xander weighed in at 16 pounds! There were ten in the litter and I guess even when at the vet's office, when all the others are a bit shy or timid, his tail never stops wagging!
Well, I'm off to try to get some sleep. I have a busy weekend ahead of me.
Good night everyone and thank you for your POSITIVE comments.

Your 16 month old and Xander will keep you well busy.
My two boys (sona nd dog) are soon going on 3. Luckily my dog (Galan) is growing up and finally has some house manners. My new addition is going to be 4 months old in a few days and she and my son are driving me crazy haha!
Well hope to see some pictures soon. Can't wait to hear about his personality
