I agree that these are peoples pets and I sincerely hope they do love them as my heart went out to some of them on Saturday. (the dogs not the owners) Most seemed, edgy and nervous and I doubt I saw a single wagging tail!
A few backed off but one dog was clearly distressed as he was approached by the judge. He was crawling up his handlers legs and then bolted back to the end of the lead. The handler pulled him over and held him by his neck as the judge went over his body, her foot cleverly placed behind his back leg. (see picture) The poor dogs eyes where on stalk as he shook and shivered, he then moved around the ring like the wind was up his tail. But Still he was 2nd place in class of 7, so this judge didn't care about his temperament!
I found the owners/handlers to be generally harsh with their dogs. Pulling them into the stance by holding their heads at an upright angle and yanking them on cheese wire check chains. One owner was continuously slapping her bitch across the face, until she noticed she was being watched! Two sable dogs stood behind us kept pulling desperately towards our water bowls, but the owner just pulled them back...felt sorry for them too as they seemed so thirsty, but by this time I was too afraid to speak to anyone I didn't know! One handler shouted "Oi stand" so loud at the dog she was handling that I jumped, though I have to say the handler of the dog CC winner was an exception as she shared the moment with her dog...if you know what I mean.
Yeah I'm glad I went....and so glad my friend Claire had some Taboo in her flask!!!

I really hope that the correct GSD shines through in the next couple of years to come, and Yes, I agree MissBeeb - these dogs are some-ones much loved pets, so perhaps we still must keep that in mind, because owning and loving a dog is more important than what it does in the show ring....... but we also have to keep in mind people buying dogs that have to be sure they are health checked throughout. Interesting photo 3 (3rd YD, 2nd GD, 2nd PGD you would not believe how old his sire was when this dog was born, nor would you believe the sires hip score, who 3 months later was awarded his stud book number by the KC.
If you dont think that these dogs are correct to the breed standard, then wait the KC can soon change it - perhaps this is why the KC summonsed the undertaking signers.

It was stated by the KC that only a club that had signed the agreement would run the British Seiger - so although the KC had sanctioned its running, it had put that stipulation on. Mo.

Blanik:
I will first kindly ask that you please remove the pictures of my dogs as you do not have my permission to use them in this way and make misrepresentations of my dogs behavior, Please feel free use bad pictures taken by you of my dogs and other peoples dogs that you have taken photos of for your own personal use but do not use them on a public domain for abusive or slanderous discussions without my permission again. I can provide you with better photos of the dogs if you want or should I start an anti German post using pictures of your dogs to see how you like it. No I wouldn't do such a thing as I can accept that there are different types of shepherds in the UK so wouldn't dream of publicly slating your type of dog. we all have different interpretations of the breed standard as we by now all know, so learn to live with that.
Yes I can and do admit the dog placed 2nd was distressed and very hard to handle but his owners were late arriving at the show and only arrived as the class started, but he just didn’t want to be in the ring on Saturday he is not a shy or nervous dog and he did not back away from the Judge in fear or anything other than just not wanting to be shown in the ring and trying to get back to his owner, so did his best to fidget and be awkward and not show his teeth hence the pulling away, so please don’t make out that my dog was a quivering wreck as he has a sound temperament but sometimes plays up in the ring. I have seen this behavior before with quite a few German bred dogs even at crufts this year and have even seen people change handlers mid judging because the judge hasn’t been able to get their hands on the dog as it has been playing up or not standing still, nothing to do with temperament. They all have bad days from time to time and sometimes refuse to co-operate…. I too was surprised by my 2nd place and if I had been judging would have not given the dog a placing, but I guess the Judge liked him enough and gave him a 2nd as he in her opinion, was better in construction etc than the other dogs.
You have used probably the worst shots from your camera to have a dig the judge and the type of shepherd she was placing that day. For the record I do not class my dogs to be of an extreme English type and know for sure that my dogs can do a days work as I have dogs from my breeding worked in the Police and on working sheep & cattle farms. So it’s not beyond them to do what they were invented for.
Why is it that when Alsatians as you call them, as I still call my dogs GSD’s get placed at very few shows per calendar year you do nothing but slate our dogs and complain about the judging but you still hold the monopoly when it comes to the amount of shows & CC’s available to either type, and yet all you do is complain that your dogs are getting a rough time from the KC? why is it then that I can only show and handle my dogs (which you all say the KC are pushing you towards) at probably 5 or 6 of the 30 plus shows this year due to the Judges preferences leaning towards the German Outline or European Judging Appointments / Holidays!!!
Quit complaining and try to enjoy your showing and remember it’s just a hobby!!!!! If you can’t be graceful in not winning then save your entry money and stay at home, we all enter to win else we wouldn’t enter in the first place would we?
