Not to demean your investment, but just because you may have paid $20K for a dog, does it mean that it is actually worth that, nor does it guarantee that the dog will be free of issues as dogs are beings that evolve and adapt to their changing conditions.
Think very basic canine social conditioning at the pack level.
As for the cat, that may require some more persistence, but it is attainable.

I think you were taken. Did the breeder even tell you about the RCS upgrade? It is available on ALL GSD models.
Look on the rear right leg on the inner thigh (of the dog). If you pull the hair back you will see a few screws holding on the access plate for the RCS controls. For an extra $5000.00 most "good" breeders would upgreade your dogs "Relationship/Common Sense for owner" program. In an instant you will understand dog training and have a great relationship with your dog.
On the serious side. A sch 3 dog should be confident, proud, should be able to think for itself if needed, have some drive and aggression. So, if this dog would go home with you, roll over on its belly and respond to your every command I probably would be concerned. What would stop an intruder from walking into your house, robbing you blind and taking your $28,000.00 dog with him? If you want a dog that will listen to anyones commands what good is it? The dog has no idea that there was a $28,000.00 transaction. You are a stranger to the dog.
I am uspet with the breeder for suggesting electric. For that kind of money they should have given you some training or offered to pay for training (for you, not the dog). It doesnt sound to me like they care for the dog. More than likely you would have ruined the dog with electric.

28K ?? Ummm.. I'd like to see the pedigree of that dog... Must come from the Mercedes Benz line of shepherds!
Charlie - Not to demean your investment, but just because you may have paid $20K for a dog.... You already did demean his investment .. by 8 grand!! LOL.

$28,000 is a lot for a dog that just has a SchH3 title. If the dog competed at a high level and did very well then i can see it. Be happy the dog is nice and not a monster. In time he'll get adjusted and realize his new home. If you do things right he should naturally be protective. But you need to establish a bond and roles. CAN you post the video you saw of the dog? I'd really like to see it. If you need help with the dog maybe buying a schH3 dog for $28,000 wasn't the smartest thing. But you live and learn. Everyone makes mistakes at some point. Good luck and please send the video.
