GSDtravels

by GSDtravels on 11 August 2009 - 04:08

I had an older (6 yrs) Yorkie spayed years ago and she had a bad reaction to the anesthetic.  The vet had to bring her back twice during surgery.  She recovered but had liver damage and it shortened her life.  I had to have her put down at 11 and at 5 lbs., she could have easily lived past 15.  One of my heart dogs, really special girl.  Always pre-test for reactions, one lesson I learned the hard way.

Glad she is doing well and that you shared this,
Glad she is doing well and you shared this.Several weeks ago i posted how my sons beloved Pit Bull had to be put down when he began bleeding 4 days after being neutered and it was discovered he had hemophilia. We tried a transfusion but it did not stop the bleeding, Pretty much wiped out the savings and it would have been worth it if we could have saved him. From now on i will insist on pre op blood work. Our vet is very good and called me in tears after the dog was put down. She said she will not nueter or spay Dobermans without the bucosal blood  testand other pre op tests because clotting problems are common in them. She said it is less common in Shepherds so she just offers the test, but in her 25 yeatrs she has never seen it in a Pit.

. My son who is 23 and lives at home has been really been missing his "best friend" Friday after Benny got his rabies shot I went to the shelter where we need to go to get his license and there was " Angelina" She is a 4 month Pit bull pup, very friendly, wagging her tail wanting to lick me! I called my son and he went down and fell in love! His name is first on the list and after three days no one claimed so he adopted by him. She went straight from the pound to the vet for a check up shots and spay but will be home with us today. She is the same age as Benny so they should be great friends. Here is a pic Hope no one minds a non GSD pic just this once

I can't see that that face could offend anyone, what a sweetheart!  I'm glad your son has decided to find another friend.  And I'm glad that Star's problem was found and fixed before further complications set in.

My first GSD died from a botched spay job.

Carly will never be spayed and neither will my 2 Pom girls.
