Welcome to PDB ! Your pup IS cute, and looks promising so
far. I'd second what others have said - try to visit as many
Clubs and Shows or Events as you possibly can, while the pup
is still small, and make your own mind up about what you like
and think will be fun to have a go at. One of the greatest things
about GSDs is their adaptability, so the breed can turn a paw
to just about anything - the importance is in doing something,
so your dog is sufficiently occupied and your bond grows !
Knowing where you are would maybe help in pointing you at
sources of information about dog activities - eg US or UK ?
And yes please, keep the piccies coming, we love to see those.
Plus if you can, do post his pedigree, not just 'cos someone
on here might have some info about his ancestry, but because
we are allnosy curious people who love to check out what is
being bred currently !
Best of luck with your new dog. Linda Swift.

Thank you,we are in the uk,where is the best place to find where different events are held?,
i have tried to put his pedigree on here but i am not having much luck with that either, sorry i am not that good with modern technology,i dont know if this is any help but the names that appear most often are emmevale videx jemness bygoly and von der rotten matter, there is a few CH and IMP,i could always type out the full names and numbers if that would be better,

If you order one or both of the weekly dog 'newspapers' through
your newsagent, or WHS, you will see that they have pages
at the back with ads for forthcoming Shows and addresses to
contact for Entry Schedules, closing dates etc. Even if you are
not entering you can use any near you to go and have a look;
spectators are welcome (with or, normally, without dogs should
be stated, or you can ask); sometimes you pay just to watch
& sometimes you don't have to. Both papers have websites:
"Our Dogs" and "Dog World".
Often other things like agility competitions / clubs are also mentioned
either in the ads or the main body of text.
A local Dog Club of any kind, whether puppy socialising, pet obedience
or Ringcraft or other specific activity (Agility, Rally, Flyball and so on)
will almost certainly be able to guide you towards other clubs and events
locally. Such Clubs can also be found advertising in pet shops and on
Vet's noticeboards. And then there is the Kennel Club website, which
has some information, and you can ask them for more details - they
print a list of Dog Training Clubs they know about and approve of.
Local Rescue Shelters are also quite good sources of information.
Is the Club you mentioned attending a British Association for GSDs
branch ?
Other useful sources of information online, including club locations and events,
are: The German Shepherd Dog League. The GSD Breed Council.
Google GSDs Training and you may get more, without knowing exactly
which region of the country you are in I cannot give you names for immediate
contacts, and anyway I don't know them all ! You can PM me if you like
and I can then be more specific perhaps. I thought you sounded like you
were here, rather than t'other side of the Pond. LoL.

BTW, Emmevale, Videx, Jemness, Bygoly and v.d.Roten Matter
are all well-known Kennel names (well, Roten Matter is a German
kennel; but quite a few good dogs find their way to Britain from
there !). My own current dog was sired by 'Bygoly El Devino at
Videx'. These are kennels actively involved in the Showring, from
German S/L stock; but no reason yours cannot take a different
path and go to the 'working' (dark !) side, if that's what you want
and your dog feels happy with. Caution: not all dogs bred will
necessarily live up to the standards of the kennels that made
them and no dog is 'perfect', so having one from a good kennel
with loads of Champions in its pedigree is no guarantee of future
success, and winning isn't everything anyway. You always go
home with the best dog ! Best of luck.
