BTW my dog does the recall like she's shot from a cannon too. She slammed into me hard enough to make me almost lose my balance. The judge laughed and said - she really loves her mother, doesn't she. She earned her 3rd leg that day, I forget the exact score, in the 180's . I didn't stick around for the score sheet, not sure how many points she lost for that, didn't care, 3rd leg...bye, bye.

At this point you shouldn't try and change anything...It's just too late to do that...but you must keep things very simple...Sooooo....BREATHE & Have FUN...and you and your dog will do just fine...Ya'll look like a very nice team together...

The only comment i have is for the anticipation for the finish. Don't have him finish every time. Sometimes just break him out with a toy and sometimes you finish to your dog. This will keep him thinking what's next? Other wise he looks great and go have fun!

Well, Nero's obedience was spectacular. The judge was VERY impressed with his enthusiam and down out of motion. We DQ'd though.. the high jump did us in. For whatever reason, he decided to go around it today, boo. Also, when I came back in on the long sit, he was laying down. I don't think that is a dq, just a major points deduction. Not sure... need to go look in my book. Other then that, all was great :) Going back tomorrow for round 2.

Not DQ!  NQ!  Tomorrow's another day :)  Fingers crossed.

Dog laying down (or sitting up, conversely) during the stay exercises is an NQ.  There's little room for error in the AKC stuff

Yes that is correct the dog moving out of position for the stay exercises is a non score. And since they always do the stays last no matter how hard you and your dog worked, there is still room for failure. I do a lot of sits and downs with my club. And most of them out of sight too. With puppy and basic obedience classes going at the same time. So plenty of good distractions.
Best of luck for you both today!

No score, NQ, DQ,  all come down to the same result - NG, no green.

DQ, NQ, AKC obedience = no room for error + 3 qualifying trials under 3 different judges + 6 to 12 dogs in the ring at the same time for sits and downs > IPO obedience

by Blitzen on 02 June 2013 - 12:06

Now we only need 2 different judges, Joanro. I had to look that up when I saw the same judge doing the same OB and rally classes at back-to-back shows at the same show site. l thought the rules said 3 and was wondering why a club would do that.  I guess it's more economical for the hosting club to use the same OB judges? Not much room for error, that's still a fact Sad Smile.
