I have to add, this just verifies the fact that most puppy buyers are down right STUPID.
I spend a lot of time readind and researching German Shepherds.
(My kids say I am off in German Shepherd land).
What really astonishes me is how many people that are breeding Shepherds, are getti.g big bucks for dogs that are missi.g so many generations in their pedigrees and are so inbred, it is scarey.

My husband's favorite is the Shi-poo, or, as he likes to call it, the Sh!t-poo. $1500 and you too can own one!

I have to disagree with this statement. I would say it was the breeder who showed the most stupidity.

Bee, but at the same time, would people be breeding them if buyers weren't shelling out top dollar for these mutts?? Just a thought. As much as I hate it, wouldn't someone not be smart to capitalize on the idiots buying who think that THIS mutt or any other, is the newest and greatest thing? Honestly, I think its sick all around, but hey that's just me.

Melba,

The breeder can't get any one to pay $150 for these poor misfits! The "doodle" breeders always claim to want to create an "allergy free, non shedding" dog, don't they? That is just salesmanship. Heck we see salesmanship on this board all the time!  Quite a few breeders show an amazing ability to change their interests depending on the type of puppy they need to sell, not to pick out any one in particular. But heck, it is so damn obvious when it happens.

Edited to add....As always, it will ultimately end up being a case of ...."Buyer Beware".

I love the logic that if you cross a poodle with some sort of double coated breed it was magically never shed. I'm going th cross a huskky or malamute with a poodle to test this ides to the max! (totally just kidding i'm not breeding anything at all)
As a retired groomer i can tell you that doodle mixes shed, shed like mad and always get matted. Which ends up with an ugly shaved dog. And yes that dog is ugly and could easily be a lab poodle cross.
What i really don't understand is what BYB are trying to reinvent the wheel? I mean there are several poodle/retreiver cross that are actual AKC breeds. Irish water dog, portuguese water dog, spanish water dog,  Curly coated retriever, and more.
What do they think they are doing that has not been done a million times before. And people are dumb. I see them every day!.

Bee, I don't consider those people breeders.
When I look to German Shepherds, yeah, I know and research the lines. I look for "dual purpose dogs", one that is suitable for any and all venues.
Not bred For",this, that or the other thing.
A German Shepherd should be a versatile dog, one that can,(and will),work, play and protect!

Kitkat, let's hope they don't go for a repeat. Can you imagine writing a standard for something that looks like that? The idea to want to recreate that poor creature, intentionally? LOL  Not the poor frankensteinian creature's, fault, I know.

Melba,
Any dog that looks like that... on purpuse, lol, and costs less than a minimum rescue donation, and requires no background checking to purchase— this is the market of stupid buyer from a stupid breeder! How about that? Wink Smile
