hiya Tenmon,it is now 10.30 in the evening here in the uk.thought i would pop on PDB.to see if your lady has had her babies.sounds like it wont be long and that she may have a large litter.i had mostly large litters,2 of 11,2 of 12,and the rest 10,9,8.babies.the 1st pup is normally the one that seems to take ages.then yu could get nos.2 and 3 within 20 mins then the next a couple of hours and so on.dont panic as this will be relayed onto your bitch.most whelp without much noise but some i believe are noisy.usually just before each birth there will be a lot of scratching, tearing, moving of the newspaper, then she will give her attention to her rear end where a pup should be emerging.it may not always be in the water bag, most of mine weren,t.many are born feet first, this is normal,(a breech birth in dogs is not the same as in humans)i,m glad to see that you have informed your vet of the impending birth.it often helps if the delivery of the pups seems to be taking time between each birth to give her a quick short stroll around the garden/yard on the leash to get things going.well i,m off to bed, good luck and i hope to hear that all went well with the birth of your babies.nite.Carole S.IF THE BITCH GOES MORE THAN A FEW HOURS BETWEEN EACH BIRTH I WOULD INFORM THE VET.SHE MAY NEED AN OXYTOCIN JAB.I PERSONALLY WOULD RING AFTER 2HRS.

Well guys......I'm a daddy!!!!!
Twelve...yesppers 12! What a load. I think though that a couple will not make it. The box is a "bloody" mess. One or two the female is just totally ignoring and no amount of coaxing or moving one or two fiesty ones so that these can start sucking doesn't do anything. The mom just pushes them away. I think she's had enough. I don't blame her. Just been changing liners often so the puppies do not have to take a constant bath in the mess. I will be cleaning up the female this afternoon.
There are about 95% brown/sables and one or two bi. As a matter of fact, the two the mom is pushing away are bi-colours. Will keep trying though. They were whelped in a closed in whelping box in a heated garage. They are fine. Will post pictures when all is settled down.
Am contemplating doing one of those stimulation procedure on one of the pups as an experiment. I saw it on a website somewhere. Military uses it also. Anyone has any experience/luck with this to produce a better working dog? It is supposed to work and the window to do this is the 3-5 day. Is this a waste of time? Is this for a new thread?
I really paniced yesterday calling all the vets in the area but all went well....so far. To all you expectant breeders out there, just have a backup plan. I didn't and nearly went out of my mind stressing. Phew! Thats a relief.
She refuse to eat anything other than raw chicken quarters. So to keep some food in her stomach, what mama wants, mama gets! Plus a couple of vitamin tabs.
Good Luck guys! Whaooooo!

Congratulations, well done. Do not stimulate for more than 3 minutes, be careful not to over stress the infant, maybe first day of birth is too early for the stimulation act.

There are recipes for puppy formula you can give smaller pups that may need a little help to get going, if you search the message board, you will find them. Congratulations! May you & your pups do wonderfully! jackie harris

Hello again and for those in the USA, a happy Thanksgiving. Mine was spent quite busy with the pups and mom. Was able to get away for a dinner with the family.
The saga continues with the pups. Because of the size of the litter I do not think they are getting all the nutrients they should be getting. I might have to resort to helping mama, which I wasn't planning to do. I believe in the strongest survives. However, it just heart wrenching to look at the whole bunch fighting to get to a nipple. Mom is very tired. She has lots of food before her, but not eating much. I have fixed up a variety of different meals, 2-3 bowls sitting in front of her but just the nibble here and there. One bowl is a kibble cottage cheese combo, another bowl, kibbles (puppy food) with scrambled eggs and mince meat, another is kibbles and raw chicken. Lots of water available and the garage is quite warm considering that outside is 23+ degrees (f).
I'm still changing paper lining since she still has a bloody discharge. Today she was acting wierd. Running about the yard, just as when she was looking to whelp. I had to coaked her back to the garage. Even then she didn not enter the pups section readily. Her crate is near by and she went there. As if to avoid the pups but she eventually went to the pups.
I will send some pictures but the box is still bloody. I will be taking her to the vets today. I will have to clean up her rear end a bit since it has dried blood and she is still discharging. Other than that she looks fine. She did eat a couple chopped up chicken quarter this morning.
If I have to feed the pups, and I can probably do this 2x a day, morning and night when I get back to from work, what have some of you viewers suggest as formulas and feeding aparatus? I know this is a new thread but I'm chancing a continuance of this one. Any suggestions out there?
Not sure if it is a good thing to start the stimulation, or even attempt it now, since I can't really judge the status of the pups. I have not been weighing them. Unfortunately, I do not have a scale. They all look the same size though.
Thank you all for your continued support in this matter and all information is appreciated and welcomed.

You keep saying the box is a bloody mess. Is your girl bleeding heavily? You mention she is acting odd like she was before whelping, is it possible she has a retained pup? You must get a scale. How else will you know who is gaining weight and who is losing so you can give extra nutrition to the smaller pups? You certainly cannot go by an eyeball view.
