Whether you like Shilohs or not, I am sure we can ALL agree that passing them off as GSDs is NOT good for either breed!

And sorry harddawg. (NOT). Seems you imposed yourself into our Shiloh conversation. No one called you in.
If you don't like the Shilohs, that's your perogative.
BUT, they are a breed of dog that, for the umteenth time, ARE NOT German Shepherds.
Tina Barber put her heart and soul into creating HER breed of dog, and I asked the question about them, and sunsilver obliged some info.
Like I said, no one called you into the conversation
Yes, you did "call" people in by posting it in a public forum. Additionally, if you are saying it's not a GSD the why are you posting it in the GSD forums?

I wanted to make GSD people aware of a serious problem that also affects their dogs, and which CAN be eliminated from the gene pool with testing before the pup reaches maturity.
Other posters started to draw the thread off topic by talking about Shilohs bieng registered as GSDs, so I started a separate thread for that topic, as I did not want to draw attention away from a serious health issue. Now, please explain to me how falsification of GSD pedigrees DOES NOT AFFECT THE GSD???

Really, hardawg! There are certain threads that make ME wish I could make them disappear. I just AVOID them! (Like the one you mentioned about the working line/showline GSDs!)

It should be fairly obvious that the AKC has little to no affect on the GSD as a breed to the true afficiando. I'll play your little game though and clarify it for you. In the AKC, there are no breed standards or criteria other than a form and cash. There is no management of criteria for breeding eligibility, that is medical screening tests, working trials and related activities. AKC registration means absolutely NOTHING and I'm sure that nearly everyone here (who knows GSDs) knows what I'm talking about....except for you. Now, please explain to me how falsification of GSD pedigrees DOES NOT AFFECT THE GSD???
I'm anxiously awaiting your explanation....

So, is there really any point in letting this discussion continue, since Markobytes isn't willing to give details?
I'm sure this type of fraud has been going on ever since there were purebred dog registries, and it was much easier to get away with before DNA could be used to verify parentage.
If you just want to use this thread to insult me and insult a breed you know next to nothing about, I will ask for it to be locked.
BTW, talking of breeding criteria, why don't you check out what it is for the breed you call an 'abomination'?
-must be at least 24 months old for females, 12 months old for males.
- must have passing hips.
- must pass a temperament test (similar to AKC test).
- Co-efficient of inbreeding for the mating must be below a certain percentage (forget exact figure)
-LER (litter evaluation) must have been completed and submitted for both dogs. This includes a complete evaluation of temperament and structure, done at 8 weeks. The puppy must have been certified as BREED QUALITY at this time. If the puppy was only graded as 'pet-upgradable' the upgrading to breed quality must have been approved by the breed warden.
- breeding must be approved by the breed warden (now Lisa Barber).
- both sire and dam's family tree are carefully checked for inheritable genetic defects. The ISSR has a very comprehensive database of their dogs, going back nearly 40 years.
Most GSD breeders don't do half of this stuff!
No, there is no requirement for working titles, but the breed doesn't claim to be a working breed. If you want to do schutzhund, you'll choose another breed.

" They are told to find another breed if they want a couch potato."
"The Shiloh has a lot of the positive characteristics of the GSD, but typically has lower drive and energy and quite frankly they make awesome pets, therapy dogs and service dogs."
"There are some that excel at herding and SAR."
So...the dog is a couch potato that with low drive and energy but also excels at herding and SAR? Herding and SAR require quite a bit of drive. Just ask someone with a Border Collie. What, are you two related? You seem to have similar ideas in creating dogs that have no particular purpose. There are already dogs in existence that suit the purpose of couch potato, therapy and service dogs or herding and SAR. What's the purpose of creating a Jumbo German Shepherd wanna-be when you can go down to the pound and pick out a suitable couch potato any day of the week? If you have no specific job function, why create a breed? Just because you can?
Herding, this giant? LMFAO You really have no clue what you're talking about. Pass me some of that stuff you're smoking and we can all have great fantasies.

No secret they are not liked by the majority on the DB, but ya know what, "who really cares".
And you are correct that posting on the German Shepherd side of the boarrd is where it should be.
You have people that don't know much about German Shepherds, looking to buy a dog, they should be alerted to the fact that Some people fraudulently advertise, and apparently register their dogs, ass Germn Shepherds
I know and you know, as do some others that educate themselves, here, that Tina invested many years into getting what "she" wanted.
The same way we love and defend our chosen breed, there are others that feel the same way about their Shilohs.
Why people have got to try to be so rude and insulting to others who are having a discussion, about something that has nothing at all to do with him, is beyond me.
I guess it makes him feel good, to try to make someone else feel bad.
