Thank you everyone for your kind wishes and support.
Good news.....the vet called and told me Cisco is doing well enough that he could come home today........So, I went and picked him up
.
Cisco got up on his own, walked normally (well, normally for a dog that just had his back operated on), has good tail wagging, was able to go both potties, and has a good appetite.
His back looks good, minimal swelling, and he is VERY alert. I have given him hugs from all of you and then some.
I will post updates as we go along. Thanks again everyone.

Cheri, I'm so sorry. Fingers crossed for a good news phone call about the removed mass.

Cheri, may you receive the holiday presents you are most wishing for this year...a path report that says "...benign something-or-other, excision is curative, no recurrence expected", and a complete and swift recovery and return to his normal active self by Cisco. As was said before, he's young and strong, and you're observant enough that it was caught early.

Keep the faith, Cheri. Odds are, at his age, Cisco is suffering from some benign condition that will not cause him any permanent health issues.I like what Hexe has offered above and echo her advice.

Hello Everyone,
I thought I would post an update on Cisco for all of my PDB friends.
We haven't heard from the vet on his pathology report but hope to by the end of the week. It was shipped to Colorado State University and is held up due to the holidays.
He is healing really well and gets his stitches out on Wens. morning. In fact, if it weren't for the shaved patch on his back, you wouldn't know he just had major surgery.
I have to watch his body language like a hawk when we go out for potty breaks, because he's ready to explode with energy at any moment...poor guy wants to run and play so bad.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to keep his brain occupied while in confinement for the next 10 weeks. He is already getting a little destructive......tried to shred his bed.
Here are some pictures we took yesterday of my beautiful vibrant boy.

His platz position was perfect. He didn't want to rotate into a more comfy position so I think his back feels better.
Thank you for all of your heartfelt wishes they really help.
Take Care....and hope Everyone has a Very Happy New Year.
Cheri

Cisco looks wonderful!!..So glad he is comfortable and progressing without much discomfort..I hope all test will come back with good news..
I would provide lots of bones for chewing,,,
Also, last year we went to a holistic veterinarian. While we were sitting in the room waiting to see the Dr. I noticed that Prince fell asleep..lol..He was snoring lying on his side..I thought it was very strange as Prince usually is in "attention mode" ~~muzzled~~ waiting to see who comes through the door..
Long story short they had a classical music playing in the room. I asked them about it and they said it was a relaxation CD called "Through a Dog's Ear"....I can tell you from this experience that it does indeed work!..I bought it and sometimes if I plan on leaving Prince kenneled for an extended period I will play it,,I could make you a copy if you like...:)

Thanks Deanna,
LOL......I would love a copy or tell me where I can get one :) We turn the TV on for him and that seems to help some.
